SCANTER 2001 Surface Surveillance Radar Selected for Colombian Navy Frigates
(Source: Terma Group; issued Jan. 18, 2008)
TERMA, Denmark --- The Colombian Navy has acquired the Terma SCANTER 2001 Surface Surveillance Radar for the four “Almirante Padilla” Class Frigates. The radars will be part of a modernisation program of the vessels. Delivery will already take place in the first quarter of 2008.
The SCANTER Radar Systems are specifically designed to meet the requirements for noise and interference rejection, signal processing, electronic interfacing, signal distribution and resistance to a tough environment.
The Terma Ship Radar Sensor is operational in navies worldwide, including countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Mexico, Singapore, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Turkey, Greece, Korea, Finland and Great Britain.
A versatile and modular concept ensures compliance with application requirements and specific customer needs. The Receiver-Transmitter (RxTx) system configuration ranges from single frequency operation to RxTx systems with Frequency Diversity.
The SCANTER Radar System complies with the justification and operational requirements onboard naval vessels to:
-- Provide backup to primary surveillance radar system
-- Assist onboard tactical task functions
-- Perform sea surveillance with automatic target tracking
-- Provide versatile interface capability for C3I (command, control, communication and information) and other onboard systems
-- Provide safe navigation for year-round operation.
The high-tech, Denmark-based Terma Group develops advanced products and systems for a wide range of civilian and defense purposes, among these command and control systems, radar systems, aircraft survivability equipment, space technology, and structural parts for aircraft. International representations are located in The Netherlands, Germany, the U.S., and Singapore.

Saludos,
Sut

Re: Armada de la República de Colombia (ARC)
http://www.defense-aerospace.com/cgi-bi ... le=releaseContract for the Modernisation of Colombian Class 209 Submarines
(Source: ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG; issued Jan. 14, 2009)
Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH (HDW), a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG, and MarineForce International LLP (MFI) signed a contract for two material packages for the maintenance and modernisation of the Colombian Navy submarines “A.R.C. Pijao” and “A.R.C. Tayrona”. The contract was signed between the HDW/MFI consortium and the Colombian Ministry of Defence.
HDW built the two boats in Kiel from 1970 and delivered them five years later to the Colombian Navy. Since then, the two Class 209/1200 boats have been subjected to two modernisation programmes at the shipyard in Germany where they were built.
This new modernisation project will be carried out in Colombia by the state-owned shipyard COTECMAR in Cartagena. The scope of delivery by HDW and MFI encompasses the two material packages as well as support for COTECMAR with technical know-how. The Colombian shipyard plans to conclude the project by the end of 2011.
For ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems and MFI, this contract is another indication of the unbroken trust of South American navies in German submarine technology.
With 63 units contracted to date, the HDW Class 209 submarines represent the most successful non-nuclear submarine class in the world. In South America alone, submarines of this class are in service in seven navies.
Main characteristics of Class 209/1200 submarines:
--Length: approx. 56 m
--Displacement: approx. 1,200 t
--Crew: 34
--Propulsion:diesel-electric
ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG, with its head office in Hamburg, Germany, is part of ThyssenKrupp Technologies AG within the ThyssenKrupp Group. With its technological competence, extensive portfolio and continuous innovations the corporate group, being the umbrella organisation for shipyards in Germany, Sweden and Greece and various marine engineering companies, represents one of the leading systems houses in European shipbuilding.
Within the concern, HDW is the competence centre for the development, design and construction of submarines and is the world-wide market leader in the production of non-nuclear submarines. Submarines equipped with HDW’s revolutionary air-independent fuel cell propulsion system are in service all around the world.
