CRUZADER - O FUTURO DA ARTILHARIA AUTO-PROPULSIONADA?

O XM CRUZADER é um conjunto integrado de sistema de artilharia auto-propulsionado, da americana United Defense, fabricante com antigas tradições nestes sistemas de armas.
Trata-se de um projecto integrado, concebido a partir de 1999, com o objectivo de dotar o Exército norte-americano e eventualmente alguns dos seus aliados de uma arma de artilharia com capacidades estratégicas, num número inicial de 480 unidades.
Uma evolução do M-109, trata-se de um sistema integrado, pelo XM-2001 (a viatura de artilharia), o XM-2002, contrituido por um módulo/viatura de lagartas, que assegura o remuniciamento de cada uma das unidades, e pelo XM-20O3, uma viatura pesada de rodas todo-o-terreno (o M1075 PLS) que assegura uma terceira fase de remuniciamento e apoio.

Será que poderemos considerar o projecto "Cruzader - século XXI" o futuro da artilharia auto-propulsionada, nem tanto pelas performances apontadas pelo fabricante, mas sobretudo pelo grau de sofisticação e integração electronica e automação, que faz desta arma uma das mais complexas dos Exércitos do futuro?
