I've completed another update of my years-long project in Google Earth to map all possible-to-find Russian (and Belarusian) military and security-related facilities across the globe (integrated into order of battle to the fullest extent).
The database contains thousands of units and facilities from all branches of the Russian and Belarusian state apparatus, including Russian and Belarusian Armed Forces, Rosgvardiya, FSB, KGB, Ministry of Emergency Situations and Federal Protective Service.
The work on the project started in late 2019.
RBMI 1.5 CHANGELOG:
- Added Belarusian units and facilities;
- Expanded Russia's FSB database;
- Added Russia's 8th Directorate of the General Staff (Main Directorate for the Protection of State Secrets);
- Northern Fleet Joint Strategic Command is now Leningrad Military District (minus Northern Fleet) while Western Military District is now Moscow Military District, in accordance with real decisions of the Russian leadership;
- The four Russian fleets (Baltic, Northern, Black Sea and Pacific), as well as the Caspian Flotilla are now subordinated directly to the Russian Navy command, in accordance with real decisions of the Russian leadership;
- Added the logistics centers of the Moscow, Leningrad, Southern and Eastern Military Districts;
- Added missing Radio-Technical companies and other units;
- Added the Topographical Service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation;
- Added the 104th Guards Airborne Division (data incomplete);
- Updated names of commanders;
- Hundreds of smaller corrections and updates.
Russia is reconstituting its army far faster than initial estimates suggested - US Army General Christopher Cavoli, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe.
The top American military commander in Europe told the House Armed Services Committee in a hearing on Wednesday that the Russian army "is actually larger by 15 percent" than it was when it invaded Ukraine back on February 24, 2022.
"Over the past year, Russia increased its front-line troop strength from 360,000 to 470,000," Cavoli continued, adding that the bolstered numbers stemmed from Russia raising its conscription age from 27 to 30.
The increase, Cavoli said, meant that Russia was able to enlarge "the pool of available military conscripts by 2 million for years to come."
"In sum, Russia is on track to command the largest military on the continent," Cavoli said. He also added that regardless of the outcome of the war in Ukraine, "Russia will be larger, more lethal, and angrier with the West than when it invaded."
The situation is getting more dangerous for Ukraine and the world each day. If Russia isn't stopped, it won't stop.
