(defensa.com) Durante la feria de defensa IDEF-2015, en Estambul, el astillero turco SEDEF ha firmado el contrato con la Subsecretaría de Industrias de Defensa turca (SSM) para el diseño y construcción de un buque de desembarco anfibio LPD para la Marina Turca, en el que Navantia participa como socio tecnológico. Navantia proporcionará a SEDEF, para su construcción local, el diseño, transferencia de tecnología, equipos y asistencia técnica. El diseño está basado en el LHD “Juan Carlos I” adaptado a las necesidades de la Marina turca, con la gran ventaja de ser un diseño probado y que ha demostrado sus magníficas prestaciones desde su entrega. Los equipos que suministra Navantia son los diésel generadores que serán fabricados en Navantia y el Sistema Integrado de Control de Plataforma.

La adjudicación del contrato se anunció el 27 de diciembre de 2013 y tras año y medio de negociaciones se ha alcanzado el hito de la firma. La entrega del buque está prevista en el año 2021. Se estima que este contrato dotará a los astilleros, la Fábrica de Motores y Navantia Sistemas de unas 900.000 horas de trabajo. Navantia también tiene un contrato de dos buques similares para la Marina australiana, “Canberra” y “Adelaide”, de los cuales se ha entregado el primero en octubre de 2014 y se está finalizando el segundo en Australia para ser entregado en el último cuarto de 2015.Este contrato supone la entrada de Navantia en el mercado turco, que tiene un ambicioso plan de programas futuros, entre otros la adquisición de fragatas antiaéreas y por el que Navantia está apostando a través de su delegación establecida desde 2013, así como la consolidación como referente en el mercado de LHD.

At IDEF 2015, the International Defence Industry Fair currently held in Istanbul, Turkey, local shipyard "Sedef Shipbuilding" is showcasing a model of the future Turkish Navy Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) with the short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) variant of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II jets on board. The same model is showcased on the Turkish Navy booth.

Turkey's Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) announced in December 2013 that it selected Sedef shipyard as winner of its LPD tender and that final contract negotiations with this shipyard could begin. Sedef shipyard in Turkey offers a design based on Juan Carlos LHD under the collaboration with Spain's Navantia.

Landing Platform Dock Project
According to SSM, the Landing Platform Dock Project (LPD)’s main purpose is the acqusition of one Landing Platform Dock in order to meet the operational requirements of Turkish Naval Forces. The scope of the procurement is for:
- 1 LPD and
- Four Landing Craft Mechanics (LCM)
- Twenty seven Amphibious Assault Vehicles (AAV),
- Two Landing Craft Personnel Vehicles (LCVP),
- One Commander Boat
- One RHIB (Rubber Hull Inflated Boat) will be acquired

One of the requirement was for a Privately Owned Turkish Shipyard to be main contractor, also responsible for design, construction, integration and tests and final performance.

The other proposals which were rejected were:
RMK Marine Shipyard offering its own indigenous design and Desan shipyard offering a design based on South Korea's Dokdo class. At the early stage of the tender a Chinese company submitted its design proposal but then backed away.

The LPD is a single hull vessel made of steel whose platform is designed by Navantia and combat system integrated by ASELSAN and HAVELSAN. The design is based on a combination of military and commercial standards and specifications. The structure, equipment and materials comply with Turk Loydu Classification rules and civil standards, whist her combat system, ammunition handling and stowage systems, systems of replenishment at sea, flight deck and the damage control system follow military standards

Turkish Navy LHD Mission Profiles and Capabilities

The ship is to be designed for four mission profiles:
» Amphibious ops: Capable of transporting a marine infantry force to carry out landing and support operations.
» Force Projection: Transporting forces to a theatre of operations.
» Aircraft Carrier: A platform for carrier-based naval aircrafts, acting as a flight deck for strategic projection airborne vectors (Navy's Air Wing)
» Humanitarian air ops: MOOTW (Military Operations Other Than War), humanitarian assistance, evacuation of crisis area, hospital ship in areas affected by natural disaster, etc.

We reported in January this year that Turkey took the decision to built the future LHD (Turkish designation: LPD Project) as an aircraft carrier capable to deploy the F-35B, the STOVL variant of the Lockheed Martin built Joint Strike Fighter.

Turquia inició ayer la construcción del buque anfibio clase Juan Carlos I diseñado por Navantia con la ceremonia del primer corte de acero en el astillero turco Sedef, en sus instalaciones de la bahía de Tuzla. Al acto acudió el presidente de la República Turca, Recep Tayip Erdogan. (...)

Navantia participa en este contrato (...) proporcionando ayuda en el diseño, la transferencia de tecnología, los equipos y la asistencia técnica. (...)

Además del diseño, Navantia suministrará cinco grupos de generadores diésel y el Sistema Integrado de Control de Plataforma, que serán desarrollados en sus instalaciones de Cartagena. La entrega del buque está prevista en el año 2021.

Se estima que este contrato dotará a los astilleros de Navantia, así como a los negocios de Motores y Sistemas de la empresa, de cerca de un millón de horas de trabajo, de las que 900.000 son de ingeniería y 100.000 de producción.

The monohull vessel, FAC-55, designed by STM under the Turkish Naval Forces Fast Attack Craft Project, has made its debut in Pakistan. STM, which implemented the ‘Navy Fleet Replenishment Ship and ‘Submarine Modernization Project’ with the Pakistani Naval Force and has appended its signature to successful projects in brother country Pakistan, has drawn interest from the Pakistani Naval Forces with its new high speed Fast Attack Craft, ‘FAC-55’, which was completely designed nationally, like the MILGEM Corvettes.

Goes beyond 55 knots…

With its capabilities likely Corvettes, the FAC-55’sinnovative design, goes one step further than similar platforms in the World, especially with its superior surface warfare effectiveness..It conforms to international standards with its gas turbine propulsion system and has the features of a mono-hull warship. Reaching speeds beyond 55 knots on the sea, the displacement weight of this new type of fast attack craft is approximately 535 tonnes.

After two years of continuous design work and test results, the FAC-55 has displayed a performance beyond expectations and will be a strong candidate for the Turkish Naval Forces Fast Attack Craft Project in the near future.

While already being the subject of interest in Pakistan, the FAC-55 is also being followed with great interest by other countries.
