Marechal,

Vou responder lá no tópico Terrestres/Futuro da AAe no Brasil.

First A-Darter missiles to be delivered in February

First A-Darter deliveries in February 2016The development of the A-Darter fifth generation short range air-to-air missile has reached the stage of industrialisation and subsequent production with first deliveries expected by February next year.
The 2014/15 Armscor annual report notes that “despite a total delay of approximately six months during the development phase, this ambitious development programme, co-funded by the Brazilian Air Force and the SA Air Force, is delivering good results.

“It will deliver an air-to-air missile that is functionally comparable with the most advanced missiles of this nature available in the world. Despite delays incurred during the development phase, the programme time scale has still been shorter than that of comparable missiles developed internationally.

“The programme encountered several difficulties on various aspects during this reporting period, but these difficulties were all successfully resolved without any significant further delays to the programme. During the past year, a number of test flight campaigns were conducted which culminated in the successful completion of the final development flight test campaign.

“These successful tests essentially signify the completion of the development phase of the project. The following reporting period will see the finalisation of the Critical Design Reviews of the complete missile and all its subsystems as a precursor to final qualification and attainment of the Product Baseline (PBL).

“Following the successful flight test campaigns conducted during the past year, and sufficient mitigation of most technical risks on the programme, a contract for the industrialisation and subsequent production of the operational missiles for the SAAF was placed with industry towards the latter part of the reporting period. First delivery of missiles is expected to be towards February 2017.”

During the year under review work was also done on integrating the A-Darter and a helmet mounted display capability (HMC) onto the SAAF’s Hawk Mk120 lead-in fighter trainers.

“A feasibility study was conducted to identify and reduce major integration risks, and it was concluded it is viable to integrate the missile and an HMC onto the Hawk aircraft with no major developmental risks associated with the programme.”

Armscor foresees a contract for the integration of the A-Darter missile onto the Hawk aircraft based at 85 Combat Flying School in Limpopo being concluded during the 2015/16 financial year.

Based on various sources, I have the A-Darter timeline as follows:

Mid 1980s - Concept development started (Flight International 2-8 July 1997)

1995 – Development Started
1997/06 - Official unveiling (Flight International 18 -24 June 1997)

2006 – Brazil joins project
2010/01 – Ground seeker tests concluded
2010/03 – Captive flight trials on Gripen concluded
2010/06 – Successful Gripen in-flight launch
2011/07 – Gripen integration completed
2012/03 – Qualification phase entered
2013/03 – SAAF orders A-Darter
2015/02 - A-Darter to use Marotta Controls (UK) MPACT pure air compression technology

2016 – Planned service entry in Brazilian Air Force

This would give it a time period of 30 years, although we know it was put on hold for an unknown period of time after 1997 (strangely enough almost immediately after its official unveiling).

Keeping in mind that Denel Dynamics only signed an agreement with Marotta Controls in February THIS year, one can well expect another delay whilst their MPACT infra-red seeker cooling technology is implemented and tested on the A-Darter.
After 30 odd years it will certainly be a proud moment to finally see this product join the SAAF and other air forces as a top of the line 5th generation AAM.

A justificativa é $$ e política.

Donald Trump resolveu "demitir" o F-35 ! :D
Trump wants to 'fire' F-35
By Phillip Swarts, Staff writer 3:04 p.m. EDT October 29, 2015
Donald Trump

Donald Trump wants to tell the F-35 that it’s fired.

The businessman and Republican presidential candidate questioned the wisdom of purchasing the joint strike fighter during an appearance on a conservative radio talk show Oct. 22.

“When they say that this cannot perform as well as the planes we already have, what are [we] doing, and spending so much more money?” Trump said during an appearance on the Hugh Hewitt radio show.

The host asked Trump his thoughts on the fifth generation fighter and the fact that it’s $160 billion over budget. Trump responded that he didn’t like what he had been hearing in security briefings.

“I do hear that it’s not very good,” he said. “I’m hearing that our existing planes are better. And one of the pilots came out of the plane, one of the test pilots, and said this isn’t as good as what we already have.”

Trump referenced a scathing, five-page report that was leaked in June by the website War is Boring. In the memo — meant to be seen only by defense officials and Lockheed Martin — the test pilot derides the F-35’s ability to engage in high aerial maneuvers and a close-in dogfight.

The Lightning II can’t, the test pilot wrote, defeat an older F-16 in visual combat.

Military leaders and policy makers should take the report seriously, Trump said.

“Test pilots are amazing people. They know better than anybody,” he said. “They’re saying it doesn’t perform as well as our existing equipment, which is much less expensive. So when I hear that, immediately I say we have to do something, because you know, they’re spending billions. This is a plane. There’s never been anything like it in terms of cost.”
