Esquisito:

España NO Rafales embarcados.

Navio-aeródromo Charles De Gaulle no dique seco

France’s DCNS Begins Barracuda Production

DCNS launched production of the Barracuda new-generation nuclear attack (SSN) submarine Dec. 19, cutting the first metal plate for the lead boat, the French naval systems company said.
“The first plate, measuring 7.5 by 3.3 meters, for the first-of-class Suffren was shaped at an official first-cut ceremony attended by the high authorities of the French Navy and French procurement agency DGA at DCNS’s Cherbourg shipyard,” the company said in a statement.
The first production milestone was reached less than a year after the DGA placed an order for one Barracuda boat, with options for the following in the series. A total of six Barracuda submarines are expected to be built.
DCNS is also working on detailed design definition studies for the Barracuda. The new boat, which replaces the Rubis/Améthyste class, will shape the future of DCNS’s submarine business for the next 15 years and draw on competences of most departments in the company, DCNS said.

French Navy's New Nuclear Submarine Fleet to Be Powered by GE Technology

(Source: GE Oil & Gas; issued Jan. 25, 2008)

FLORENCE, Italy --- GE Oil & Gas has been selected by DCNS to provide the turbo-generators and propulsion turbines for the French Navy’s new fleet of six nuclear submarines, which are scheduled to enter service between 2016 and 2027.

DCNS, the European leader in naval defense systems, recently awarded Thermodyn, the Le Creusot-based turbo-machinery division of GE Oil & Gas, a contract to provide two turbo-generators and one propulsion turbine for the Suffren, the first of the six submarines ordered under an initial contract as well as for each of the other five ships ordered under optional contracts.

The turbo-generator-rectifiers will supply electric power to the propulsion and to the auxiliary systems. GE’s propulsion turbine, which drives the propeller, will supply the required mechanical power to the submarine when at top speed. These condensing-type turbines are highly customized to address the French Navy’s specific requirements, including very low noise and vibration levels, to provide the submarine with maximum speed and stealth capabilities.

GE’s project partner, Jeumont Electric, is supplying the generator-rectifier equipment for the turbo-generators.

“We are extremely honored to provide DCNS with the turbo-generator and propulsion turbine equipment for this project, which is of vital importance to France’s long-term national security,” said Claudi Santiago, President and CEO of GE Oil & Gas. “This order also represents a significant recognition of GE’s leadership in the area of acoustic controls for power generation, including in military applications.”

GE’s equipment is being manufactured at Thermodyn’s Le Creusot facility, which operates a special anechoic chamber that tests the equipment’s noise levels prior to delivery. GE also will provide assistance in the packaging of its equipment within the propulsion main frame, as well as assistance for site tests until each ship is commissioned.

The first set of three turbines will be delivered by GE between October 2010 and February 2011.

“Thermodyn has been a longtime supplier of turbo-generator equipment and propulsion turbines for France’s submarine fleets, as well as turbo-generators for the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier,” said Corinne de Bilbao, Region Sales Manager for West & Central Europe for GE Oil & Gas. “We are proud to support the country’s national security objectives that will also contribute to enhancing local economic development throughout France and Europe.”

DCNS is the prime contractor for the overall Barracuda submarine fleet project and the partner of Areva TA, which is the prime contractor for the shipboard nuclear power plant. The first Barracuda-class submarine, the Suffren, is scheduled to enter service in 2016.

GE's Oil & Gas business is a world leader in advanced technology equipment and services for all segments of the global oil and gas industry. Based in Florence, Italy, the company offers complete solutions for production, LNG, transportation, storage, refineries, and petrochemicals, as well as pipeline integrity solutions including pipeline-related software and pipeline asset management.
