Russian Navy Future Leader Class Destroyers Basic Design To Be Ready in 2016 According to OSK
According to ITAR-TASS citing an OSK (Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation) source, the basic design of the future Leader class destroyer will be presented to the Russian Navy in two versions in the first quarter of 2016.

Twelve ships of the 10,000t "Leader class" are planned to enter service from 2023-25, split between the Northern and Pacific Fleets. They will all be nuclear powered. They will be fitted with the ABM-capable S-500 SAM and Kalibr (SS-N-27) cruise missile. Image for illustration purpose only:

"A contract on the Lider basic design development in two versions - nuclear and non-nuclear was concluded with the Severnoye (Northern) Design Bureau today. Under the contract the Bureau will complete the development of the multi-variant basic design and submit it to the Navy Chief Command in the first quarter of 2016. The Navy will make a decision and then the full-fledged development of the engineering design and work design documents will be started," he said.
Earlier reports indicated that the Leader class would be exclusively nuclear-powered.
Shlemov said that the final variant of the new-generation ship’s propulsion equipment and its other characteristics have not been finally determined.
"The Defence Ministry’s technical development plan specifies the development of two variants, and the Severnoye Design Bureau is working on both of them," he said.
The construction of the head Lider destroyer could begin in late 2018, and its creation will take 5 - 6 years, he added.
"We are completing the basic design, then we’ll proceed to the engineering design development during a year, and then develop the design documentation. According to our estimates, on the condition of the project’s promotion by the Russian Defence Ministry, it will be possible to start the ship’s building in late 2018 - early 2019. It will be a very serious ship. I think that the ship’s construction would take 5 - 6 years," Shlemov said.
According to Shlemov, the St. Petersburg-based Severnaya Verf (Northern Wharf) shipyard could take up the destroyer building. "The plant is being prepared, the funds invested in the development will make it possible to implement this complex project, making a ship in any configuration - both nuclear-powered and non-nuclear," the expert said. A military-industrial complex source said previously that a nuclear-powered version was selected for the Lider class destroyer.

Russia Reduces Procurement of Ivan Gren Class Landing Ship to Focus on Mistral Analog Lavina
According to Moscow-based online newspaper Lenta, the Russian Navy is about to reduce the procurement of project 11711 Ivan Gren class large amphibious assault ship under the state program. The Russian Navy was originally planning to procure six vessels in this class but procurement will actually stop after the Peter Morgunov (Pyotr Morgunov), the second unit which keel has just been laid. Russia will instead focus on the "Avalanche" project, a Russian analog to the Mistral class.

These amphibious vessels can support beach landing of up to 300 marines, 40 armored personnel carriers or 13 tanks and carry the Kamov Ka-29 type helicopter on the deck. The landing ships are armed with a 76-mm naval gun, two 30-mm AK-630 antiaircraft mounts and multiple artillery rocket systems.
"The Pyotr Morgunov large landing ship is planned to be transferred to the Navy in 2018, after the completion of the vessel building and all stages of testing. The project’s lead ship - the Ivan Gren is in the final stage of construction and will be delivered to the Navy after trials at the end 2015," head of Navy’s shipbuilding department Vladimir Tryapichnikov told reporters.
The Ivan Gren class can accomodate two helicopters and is fitted with a 76mm caliber cannon, two AK-630 antiaircraft guns, and multiple launch rocket systems. The ship displacemes 5,000 tons.

The Russian Navy will receive by 2020 the first new-generation landing ship that will be many times heavier than the Ivan Gren class vessels and will be able to carry several helicopters, Tryapichnikov told reporters earlier on Thursday.
"The construction of new-generation large landing ships will be launched within the next five years, and these ships will many times surpass in displacement the Ivan Gren and Pyotr Morgunov large landing ships, have higher landing force compatibility and will be able to carry not one, but several helicopters," Tryapichnikov said.
According to him, the first ship of this class is to be built by 2020. "It will be a new project for the ‘large landing ship’ class," he said.

During the ARMY-2015 defense exhibiton, it was made public that this new project was called "Avalanche": Krylov State Research Center developed the Avalanche project of amphibious assault ship as a replacement for the cancelation for the Mistral class deal with France.
"Krylov Central Scientific Research Institute is developing an alternative to the two Mistral LHDs. Avalanche will have a displacement of 24,000 tons, even more than the French ship" - a spokesman said.
Its cruising range will be 5,000 miles at a speed of 18 knots, max speed - 22 knots, with a crew of 320 sailors. The ship will be able to accomodate 500 marines and 50 armored vehicles. According to the source, Avalanche will be able to carry 16 helicoptersof types Ka-27, Ka-29 and Ka-52K for ASW, SAR and Strike missions. It is also expected to have on board six landing craft project 11770 Serna or six amphibious assault craft project 03160 "Raptor". The ship is set to be armed with a AK-176M gun mount and AK-630M-2 "Duet" CIWS. It will also be fitted with the new Pantsir-M Surface Ship Air Defense system.

Russian Navy Slava cruiser Moskva launched Anti-Ship and Air Defense Missiles West of Angola
The Black Sea Fleet surface combat squadron including Moskva cruiser (Project 1164 Atlant / Slava class), Krivak II-class (Project 1135 M) frigate Pitlivy, Shakhter rescue tug and Ivan Bubnov tanker moved to the Eastern part of the Atlantic Ocean for training after making a portcall in Luanda (Republic of Angola).

File image: Project 1164 Slava class "Moskva" cruiser, flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, launching an S-300F Fort (SA-N-6 Grumble) surface to air missile.
One of the main elements of training was naval engagement, during which the crew of Moskva missile cruiser has completed a P-500 Bazalt (SS-N-12 Sandbox) anti-ship missile firing against a target simulating a surface ship. The guided missile has successfully hit the target.
The P-500 Bazalt is a turbojet-powered, supersonic cruise missile with a rang of 550 km and a payload of 1,000 kg, which allows it to carry a 350 kt nuclear or a 950 kg semi-armor-piercing high explosive warhead. The P-500 Bazalt uses active radar homing for terminal guidance, and can receive mid-course correction from Tupolev Tu-95RTs Bear D aircraft, Kamov Ka-25K Hormone B and Kamov Ka-31 helicopters.

Project 1164 Atlant class "Moskva" cruiser, flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet
While exercising air defence control missions of the detachment, the Moskva cruiser performed live air defense training with the launch of an S-300F (SA-N-6 Grumble) surface to air missile. The S-300F Fort was introduced in 1984 as the original ship-based (naval) version of the S-300P system developed by Altair with the new 5V55RM missile with a range extended to 7–90 km (4–56 mi, equal to 3.8–50 nautical miles) and maximum target speed up to Mach 4.
According to the Russian Navy, the crew of Pytlivy frigate successfully performed surface and air target artillery firing as well.
KA-27PS helicopter from the Moskva missile cruiser was deployed to control the performance of firing objectively.
When trainings are finished, the ships, belonging to Black Sea Fleet, will continue to perform missions in an ocean territory.
The Moskva (originally name "Slava") was laid down in 1976 in Shipyard 445 of the 61 Kommunara Shipbuilding Plant in Nikolayev, was launched in 1979, and commissioned on 30 January 1983. Slava returned to Nikolayev in December 1990 for a refit but was not returned to service until April 2000. Recommissioned as Moskva, she replaced the Kynda class cruiser Admiral Golovko as the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet.
Modernization and repair will extend the life of the ship until the end of the 2020s. Another vessel of the same class, the Marshal Ustinov has just been refitted.
