Soldiers from the First Commando Kandak (battalion) of the Afghan national army stand in formation at their graduation from commando training. The kandak is part of the ANA's 201st Corps and began commando training at Camp Morehead on May 5. The training, supply, logistics and operations were done by mentors from Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan, French special forces, and MPRI. Five more kandaks will be trained at Camp Morehead by the fall of 2008, and then the camp will be turned over to the ANA to become their commando training camp. One of the featured speakers for the graduation, Brig. Gen. Robert W. Cone, commander, CSTC-A, said to the more than 600 graduates, "Your training the past twelve weeks has not been easy. You have undergone a rigorous program. Not everyone that started the program finished this training. You did, because of your determination and dedication to your country. Congratulations to all of you on this magnificent achievement." Today's graduation is another milestone towards the Afghan national army achieving primacy. The First Commando Kandak is an advanced infantry that will be called upon to rapidly respond to a variety of conventional and special operations missions.
