Russia begins serial production of local engines for Mi-38 helicopter

Source: Russian Helicopters Russia's United Engine Corporation (UEC) has begun serial production of TV7-117V turboshaft engines for the new Mi-38 helicopter, according to a report from newspaper Izvestia.

UEC subsidiary AO Klimov developed the TV7-117V, and will assemble the engines. Russian subcontractors will produce all parts and components. The Russian engine is intended to replace the TV3-117VM series engines made by Ukraine's Motor Sich that powers the Mi-8, Mi-17, Mi-171, and Mi-28 helicopters.

Klimov is working under a mid-2015 contract to provide Kazan Helicopter Plant 50 TV7-117V engines over the next three years for RUB3.9 billion (USD59.7 million). In mid-May, the Russian Ministry of Defence agreed to purchase three Mi-38 helicopters powered by those engines, with an option for five more, according to Izvestia.

Russia plans to begin the international delivery of the Rychag-AB active jammer

Russian Radioelectronic Technologies holding KRET plans to begin the international delivery of the Rychag-AB active jammer.

The Rychag-AB active jammer is currently being delivered to the Russian Ministry of Defence as part of the electronic warfare suite on the Mi-8MTPR-1 helicopter. Eighteen of these helicopters are due for delivery to the Russian Army by the end of 2016.

The system can suppress several targets at once. In addition, thanks to an integrated database of different types of threats for covered objects, the device can define the type of target and select the most effective jamming method.

As reported earlier, batch manufacturing of Rychag-ABM station upgrades (which will considerably surpass its predecessor), may be utilized in the coming years. At the end of last year there were discussions about a pre-prototype of the option on an Mi-8AMTSH helicopter delivered for test operations.

Capaz, heim. Alguns anos atrás os EUA queriam comprar da Rosoboronexport cerca de 30 Mi-17 por 690 milhões de dólares para o Afeganistão. É praticamente metade do preço pago pelos H225 e olha que esses Mi-17 seriam no padrão usado por eles: com rádios americanos, capacetes americanos, metralhadoras laterais M240 (MAG), do jeitinho que EB gosta. Fico imaginando como seria um BAvEx equipado com Fennec, Mi-28, Mi-17 e Mi-26...

Around 1980, the Mikoyan OKB design bureau began working on a very light “strike fighter” that was intended to be a direct competitor to the F-16 Fighting Falcon. This new Mikoyan design, designated Izdeliye 33 (Izd 33) (and variously translated as “Article 33”, “Project 33”, “Product 33”, or “Project R-33”), was of conventional layout and similar in appearance to the F-16. It was powered by a single Klimov RD-33 afterburning turbofan engine – the same engine used by the twin-engined MiG-29. While extensive wind-tunnel testing was conducted on the design, no prototypes were built since the Soviet Air Force (VVS) dropped its support for concept about 1986. The program was one of several victims of the VVS’ changing operational needs, financial constraints, and a growing preference for twin-engined,multirole designs. However, in 1998 China purchased the design and test data from Russia to aid in expediting the development of the Chengdu J-10 and JF-17/FC-1.

Por outro lado, também não ficaria chateado se a FAB adotasse o segundo caça mais lindo já projetado.

Russia orders new Kh-32 cruise missiles to arm Tu-22M3 bombers

The Russian Aerospace Defence Forces or VKO plans to order the new Kh-32 (also named X-32) cruise missiles to arm its Tupolev Tu-22M3 “Backfire” bombers.

The VKO has successfully conducted Operational Evaluation trials of the Kh-32 air-launched stand-off cruise missile. The Kh-32 can use a combination of GLONASS and GPS and radar terrain mapping to achieve extremely high levels of accuracy such as that found in modern cruise missiles.

According to the information available, Kh-32 missile made on the basis of Kh-22 and similar to its predecessor in most basic characteristics is to replace Kh-22. The maximum speed of Kh-32 will be 4000 km/h, which is quite similar to the previous missile.


However, its range should be must greater – it will be 800-1000 km vs. 450-600 for Kh-22. It is expected that Kh-32 will become available in 2018.

MOSCOW --- Russia is finalizing the trials of a sophisticated cruise missile designated as Kh-32 and intended to equip the Tupolev Tu-22M3 supersonic long-range bomber fleet, according to the Izvestia daily.

The cutting-edge missile is virtually invulnerable to ground-based air defenses and interceptors of a potential adversary. Once launched, the product of the Raduga Design Bureau climbs to an altitude of 40 km, to the stratosphere, to dive on the target at a steep angle.

A source in Russia’s defense industry has confirmed that the Kh-32 missile’s tests were in final stages, and the weapon itself was at a very high degree of product availability. The Tactical Missiles Corporation, Raduga’s parent company, has confirmed that the work on the latest product is under way, but declined to comment on its progress.

According to expert Dmitry Kornev, the advanced cruise missile is designed, in the first place, to deal with enemy ships, radars and so-called radio-contrast targets, e.g. bridges, military bases, electric power plants, etc.

After the launch by the Tu-22M3, the missile climbs to 40 km, transitions to level flight, approaches the target and dives toward it. Since the Kh-32 has an inertial navigation system and a radar homing head, its accuracy is independent of GPS/GLONASS navigation satellite updates. Presumably, the weapon has a range of 1,000 km and a speed of 5,000 km/h at the least. The combination of speed and flight path makes it virtually invulnerable to enemy surface-to-air missiles and fighter jets.

The new cruise missile is a derivative of the Kh-22 family that has been until recently the mainstay of the weapons suites of both the Tu-22M3 supersonic bombers and the older, now-decommissioned Tu-22M2s.

The Soviet Navy alone has more than 10 Tu-22M3 regiments organized with five air divisions. The Soviet Air Force had about the same number of the bombers. Each regiment comprised 20 Tu-22Ms capable of hauling 40 or 60 Kh-22 missiles depending on the range to the target, according to Russian Navy historian Dmitry Boltenkov. A primary target for the Tu-22M3s were US Navy aircraft carrier strike groups. A salvo by a Tu-22M3 regiment would guarantee the elimination of the carrier itself and all of her escorts - cruisers, destroyers and guided missile frigates.

The Kh-32’s development was kicked off in the early 1990s and its early launches are believed to have taken place in the mid-2000s. In summer 2013, pictures of a Tu-22M3 carrying Kh-32 mockups on experimental sorties were published. They were taken at the airfield of the Gromov Flight Research Institute in the town of Zhukovsky, according to the Izvestia daily.

Sukhoi Handed Over A New Batch of Su-34 Frontline Bombers to the Russian Air and Space Forces

MOSCOW --- Today the Sukhoi Company handed over another batch of Su-34 frontline bombers to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation according to the 2016 State Defense Order.

The aircraft took off from the V. P. Chkalov Novosibirsk Aircraft Plant’s airfield and headed to the place of their deployment. At the present time the aircraft plant operates with maximum efficiency.

The State Contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation for supplies of the Su-34s to the Russian Air and Space Forces up to the year 2020 guarantees a stable work load of the Sukhoi Company for the coming years and identifies long-term development prospects.

Currently, Su-34s operate successfully in the military and demonstrate high performance.

Sukhoi is a United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) subsidiary.

Russia plans first flight of Il-112V military transport aircraft in 2017

Russian United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) plans to make the first flight of the new Il-112V military transport aircraft in 2017, the Voronezh Region administration said.

The Voronezh Aircraft Plant (VASO) is the main producer of the Il-112V military transport plane, the administration added.

“VASO has already started building the first prototype. The prototype is expected to perform the first flight in mid-2017,” the administration said.

In June, the Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute named after professor N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI) completed tests on flutter characteristics of the dynamically scaled model of the new light transport aircraft IL-112 developed for Russian air force.

The Il-112V is a light military transport aircraft, designed for transporting and parachuting of light weaponry and equipment, cargoes and military personnel, as well as for transporting a wide variety of cargoes when operated in commercial service.

It is capable of auto landing approaches to categorized aerodromes (minimum requirement being ICAO category II) and manual landing approaches to aerodromes poorly equipped with, or having no radio technical equipment.


The Russian air force plans to purchase Il-112 light military transport aircraft in order to renew its fleet.
