The simulation saw the Soviet and Warsaw Pact armies moving in following the multiple nuclear strikes and reach the Rhine in 7 days where they would regroup and resupply.
The Soviets hoped that the fact they did not nuke any targets in France or in the UK would prevent those countries from escalating and launch nukes in turn. They also hoped the fact they spared France and UK would split NATO cohesion and European public opinion, thus, facilitating negotiation for a cease fire.
In the event a cease fire did not look likely, the Warsaw Pact would push for the North Sea and the Atlantic, reaching Lyon in France by day 9 and then make a rush toward the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea.
Several members of the Warsaw Pact saw this plan as overly simplistic and optimistic. They also balked at the huge amount of casualties estimated by this simulation: East Germany and Poland would effectively be erased from the maps and millions of civilians casualties were expected. And that is even before counting on a potential NATO nuclear counterattack on other Warsaw Pact countries and on the USSR itself !

Nos anos 80 estava demasiado ocupado com a escola primária, e só conhecia os PC do emprego da minha mãe com umas impressoras que mais pareciam faxes.

Germany angers Turkey with attempt to police Libya arms embargo

Turkey protested to Germany and the EU on Monday after German forces belonging to an EU military mission boarded and tried to search a Turkish cargo ship that they suspected of taking weapons to Libya illegally.

Soldiers from the frigate Hamburg, part of an EU mission enforcing a U.N. arms embargo, boarded the Roseline A overnight but withdrew after Turkey raised objections with the EU mission, which had ordered the search, the German Defence Ministry said.

Turkey released footage showing armed men in military uniform marshalling sailors with their hands on their heads on the bridge of what it said was the Roseline A, at sea southwest of the Greek Peloponnese peninsula.

The incident comes at a time of friction between Turkey and the European Union. The EU’s foreign policy chief has said ties are reaching a “watershed moment” over Turkish oil prospecting in waters claimed by Greece and Cyprus, and that sanctions could be imposed next month.

Ankara said the vessel was carrying humanitarian aid and that the Hamburg had violated international law by not waiting for permission from Turkish authorities to board. It summoned the EU, German and Italian ambassadors to hear a protest.

But Germany said that, after four hours had passed with no reply to a request to board, it was standard practice to consider this as implicit permission. “All procedures were followed correctly,” a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.

The German Defence Ministry said the soldiers had not found anything suspicious by the time they were ordered off the ship.

Turkey is backing the internationally recognised government in Libya in its fight against Russian- and Egyptian-backed rebels in the east.

Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy said the Roseline’s captain had shared information with the Hamburg about his ship’s freight and its course.


“Despite this, at 17:45, armed forces from the Irini Operation boarded the ship and carried out a ‘monitoring’ that lasted long hours,” he said.

“We protest this act, which was carried out by force and without authorisation (and) retain the right to seek compensation.”

The 16,000-tonne container ship left the Turkish port of Gemlik near Bursa last week, and was last seen heading southwest towards Libya, according to Refinitiv Eikon data.

Agora já não me lembro se o jogo existia para o ZX Spectrum...na altura os jogos "melhores" custavam 150 escudos...eu e mais dois colegas costmavamos juntar o dinheiro, compravamos um jogo e depois copiavamos para cassetes indivuduais

Polónia acusa Bielorrússia de chantagem e proíbe entrada de migrantes retidos na fronteira

O primeiro-ministro polaco acusou a Bielorrússia de “chantagem” sobre um grupo de migrantes retido na fronteira entre os dois países e garantiu que não vai permitir a entrada destes na Polónia.

Mateusz Morawiecki defendeu que os migrantes foram “explorados” pelo presidente da Bielorrússia, Alexander Lukashenko.

«A chantagem feita por Lukashenko não nos pode forçar a receber ninguém», sublinhou o governante polaco, em declarações aos jornalistas, citado pela agência AFP.

Nos últimos meses, milhares de migrantes, sobretudo do Médio Oriente, entraram ou tentaram entrar nos três países que fazem fronteira com a Bielorrússia – Lituânia, Letónia e Polónia.

Estes três países não permitem que os migrantes solicitem asilo e as autoridades da Bielorrússia na fronteira não permitem que estes regressem àquele país.

A União Europeia também já acusou Minsk de encorajar os migrantes a cruzarem a sua fronteira rumo a outras nações, como retaliação pelas sanções aplicadas por Bruxelas contra o regime de Alexander Lukashenko.

A Lituânia já classificou este acto como «uma guerra híbrida» e começou a negar a entrada a migrantes desde o início de Agosto, registando-se mais travessias ilegais na Polónia e Letónia.

Os sérvios sabem muito bem hoje até onde o calo lhes aperta. Mas, também não são burros de apertar os da OTAN, que mesmo nestes tempos confusos ainda segue mantendo uma presença no Kosovo mais que suficiente para lidar com as intempéries entre albaneses e sérvios e seus descendentes ali.

Por outro lado, os Bálcãs é um lugar cheio de surpresas. Quando a gente menos espera, já estão se pegando sem a menor cerimônia, e no outro é como se nada tivesse acontecido.

Todo mundo ali quer entrar para o clubinho da UE. Antes de fazerem qualquer tipo de coisa que atrase mais ainda a já protelatória entrada da Sérvia, Bósnia e Montenegro, vão dar um jeito de se resolverem. Não vai ser uma rusga de fronteira não reconhecida que irá atrapalhar o sonho de milhões de morar em Paris ou Berlin.

Assim seria o mapa da Europa se os defensores da independência e os nacionalistas redesenhassem à força as fronteiras
