Submarino português em missão da União Europeia

O NRP Arpão vai participar este mês na Operação SOPHIA da Força Naval da União Europeia para o Mediterrâneo, que tem como objetivo principal realizar esforços para evitar o tráfico de pessoas e impedir a perda de vidas humanas no mar.

O Submarino Arpão cumpriu missão de apoio à Op. SOPHIA da @EUNAVFOR, na qual esteve 24 dias seguidos em imersão.

TKMS to refit Portugal's attack submarines

The Portuguese Ministry of National Defence (MoND) has authorised the country's navy to award Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) contracts not exceeding EUR47.99 million to refit Portugal's two Tridente class (Type 209PN) attack submarines

The first boat, NRP Tridente (S160), will be refitted in Germany 2016-2018, while TKMS and Portuguese state-owned shipyard Arsenal do Alfeite will co-operate to refit NRP Arpão (S161) locally in Portugal between 2018-2020. Systems Sunlight of Greece was also recently awarded a contract by the Portuguese Navy to replace the main batteries of the two Tridente-class boats.

The upgrade programme was laid out in Portugal's latest Military Programming Law, approved in May 2015. The refit work is principally a maintenance period, rather than an upgrade.

The submarines are scheduled to later undergo a mid-life upgrade between 2022 and 2025. This will include the updating of the boats' systems and has been valued at EUR106.12 million by the military programming law.

Submarino e Fuzileiros participam em exercício Espanhol

O Submarino Tridente e a Força de Fuzileiros nº3 estão a participar no exercício espanhol GRUFLEX61, um exercício conjunto e combinado, organizado pela Marinha do Reino de Espanha, que está a realizar-se até 24 de novembro, na região do estreito de Gibraltar.

O objetivo do exercício consiste em proporcionar o adestramento de forças multinacionais em ambiente marítimo, contemplando o treino de todas as disciplinas das operações navais tradicionais, desde operações especiais e avançadas, guerra de minas, luta antissubmarina, antisuperfície e antiaérea, culminando com várias projeções anfíbias de escalão Brigada.

Participam neste exercício o submarino Tridente com 40 militares a bordo e a Força de Fuzileiros nº3 composta por 95 fuzileiros, no total de 135 militares da Marinha Portuguesa, que integram um total de 3.000 militares que participam no GRUFLEX.

O NRP Tridente é um dos submarinos convencionais mais modernos e tecnologicamente avançados da atualidade, que terá como missão contribuir para o treino das unidades participantes do exercício – navios da esquadra espanhola – demonstrando a capacidade submarina nacional.

A Força de Fuzileiros nº3, embarcada no navio espanhol de Projeção Anfíbia Juan Carlos I, integra um Batalhão Combinado (Batalhão León) com os seus congéneres infantes de marina onde fará várias projeções anfíbias de elevada complexidade.

The Portuguese Navy (Marinha Portuguesa) is planning to introduce the UGM-84 Sub-Harpoon Block II missile later this year to equip its two Type 214 (locally known as Type 209PN) Tridente-class attack submarines NRP Tridente (S 160) and NRP Arpão (S 161).
Eight Portuguese Navy RGM-84 Block I surface-launched anti-ship missiles are being adapted into Block II weapons in Den Helder, the Netherlands, with the installation of upgrade kits. Upgrade of the first missile was completed on schedule at the end of 2013; the navy plans to formally induct the updated UGM-84 missile into service in the fourth quarter of 2014.
Portugal also purchased eight capsules and associated containers in 2009 under its Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LoA) agreement with the United States.
In mid-2012, Tridente carried out sea trials at the US Navy's (USN's) Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut, where it fired several capsules to qualify both the missile launch procedure, and integration with the weapon system's fire control unit and other submarine systems.
The diesel-electric/air-independent propulsion submarines were delivered with the Advanced Harpoon Weapon Control System (AHWCS) fitted. Alongside active radar guidance for the prosecution of anti-ship targets, the Block II introduces GPS-aided inertial navigation to provide a land attack capability against fixed targets.
Along with the missiles, the boats' eight 533 mm torpedo tubes are capable of firing Black Shark heavyweight torpedoes, 24 of which were purchased in March 2005.
Intended to replace the Albacore-class Daphné boats, Tridente and Arpão were commissioned in June and December 2010 respectively. The vessels were acquired in April 2004 for EUR833 million by the Portuguese procurement agency (DGAIED) from what is known today as ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS).
