Russian Navy Nuclear Powered Missile Cruiser Pyotr Veliky Docked for Maintenance
Russia’s heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser Pyotr Veliky (Kirov class) has been docked for repairs in the Murmansk Region in north-west Russia, Head of the Northern Fleet’s press service Captain 1st Rank Vadim Serga said on Monday. The ship will be repaired at the 82nd shipyard in the settlement of Roslyakovo, he added.
"The repairs of the ship will be completed by the beginning of a new training year when the Northern Fleet’s flagship is due to accomplish a set of scheduled combat training tasks in the sea," the officer said. The Northern Fleet reported in late August that the cruiser was planned to undergo repairs. Earlier, the Russian sole aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, also based in the North, underwent scheduled repairs.
Pyotr Veliky (Peter the Great) heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser (TARKR), the fourth Kirov class battlecruiser of the Russian Navy.
Pyotr Veliky is the fourth Kirov class cruiser (and the only one operational today), a class of nuclear-powered warship of the Russian Navy. It is the largest and heaviest surface combatant warships after aircraft carriers currently in active operation in the world.
The Kirov class's main weapons are 20 P-700 Granit (SS-N-19 Shipwreck) missiles mounted in deck, designed to engage large surface targets. Air defense is provided by twelve octuple S-300F launchers with 96 missiles and a pair of Osa-MA batteries with 20 missiles each. Pyotr Veliky carries some S-300FM missiles and is the only ship in the Russian Navy capable of ballistic missile defence.

Russian Navy Black Sea Fleet Naval Aviation Receives Two More Sukhoi Su-30SM Fighters
The naval aviation of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet has received two more Su-30SM multirole fighters, advanced aircraft designed to replace Su-24 tactical bombers currently the fleet's mainstay. Russia’s Black Sea Fleet had already received three Su-30SMs, the fleet's press office chief said.

Several more planes will be delivered, enabling an air squadron to be activated in the near future, Vyacheslav Trukhachov, fleet press office chief, said on Friday.
"The separate naval attack air regiment of the Black Sea Fleet has received two more Su-30SM sophisticated multirole fighters," the spokesman said. "The aircraft have arrived at their home station in the Crimea and are being prepared for flights under the advanced hardware familiarisation program."
The chief of naval aviation of the Russian Navy, Major General Igor Kozhin declared last month that his units are set to receive more than 50 Su-30SM by the year 2020.
According to Irkut Corporation, Su-30SM are super maneuverable twin engine jets, equipped with phased array radar, thrust vectoring engines and canards. The fighter is able to use modern "air-to-air" and "air-to-surface" high-precision weapons.
The Russian Navy Su-30SM are not intended for the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov but operate from naval aviation bases on land. They have a two-tone dark gray camouflage and bear a St. Andrew's flag (Russian Navy Ensign) painting by the cockpit.

Bat light: Russian warship to test unique blinding device
Published time: 8 Oct, 2015 19:12
Russian warships may soon be equipped with special light systems that can blind enemy optic sensors and personnel with an intensive multiband ray.
The device, officially called a “visual optical jammer station Grach,” was revealed this week at a military expo in Kubinka near Moscow. It’s a remotely-controlled device with two to four projectors that produce light intensive enough to suppress enemy sensors and cause temporal blindness in humans.
The projectors radiate light in the infrared and ultraviolet ranges of the spectrum, which means they affect devices such as thermal visors which rely on such wavelengths. Grach is intended to provide cover for troops during firefights and hinder enemy reconnaissance. It can also be used as a regular searchlight and to send light signals large distances.
Grach was developed for the Russian Navy, which will start testing a prototype later in October. However, its producer, OPK, sees a wide range of potential applications.
“This development has significant export potential. It can be used in counterterrorist operations, counteramphibious or countersabotage warfare. It can save lives and hardware and causes a strong psychological effect on the enemy,” said OPK Deputy Director Sergey Skokov.
“Not only foreign navies, but also border guards and law enforcement agencies fighting against piracy on the seas may find it useful.”
Grach is to be tested by the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, the lead ship of advanced Russian multipurpose frigates, which is currently undergoing trials.
