Embraer venderá ocho aviones monoturbohélices de ataque ligero y entrenamiento avanzado Super Tucano a la Fuerza Aérea de Indonesia, tras ganar el concurso convocado por su Ministerio de Defensa en noviembre de 2010, con un contrato que incluirá estaciones de apoyo en tierra y un paquete de logística integrado. Las entregas comenzarán en 2012, sustituyendo a otros aviones en misiones de ataque ligero, vigilancia intercepción aire-aire y contra insurgencia (COIN). Más de 150 aparatos de este modelo se han entregado ya y está en servicio con cinco fuerzas aéreas, sumando más de 120.000 horas de vuelo.

Indonesia and Embraer have signed the final contract for eight EMB-314 Super Tucanos, clearing the way for deliveries to start in 2012.
The deal was announced in November 2010 following a bidding contest involving several other types, including the Korea Aerospace Industries KT-1. Indonesia's air force operates 11 KT-1s as trainers.
"This contract represents a bold step for the Super Tucano footprint in the world," said Orlando Neto, commercial senior vice-president for Embraer Defense and Security. "We welcome the Indonesian air force as the newest operator of an Embraer Defense and Security product, and they will be served and satisfied with the same excellence, quality and efficiency that extend to all customers."
The Brazilian company said Indonesia will use the aircraft in a range of roles, such as light attack, surveillance, air-to-air interception and counter-insurgency.
The EMB-314 can operate from unpaved runways with a variety of armaments, including its two wing-housed 12.7mm machine guns. Other weapons can include conventional and laser-guided bombs, plus rocket pods and air-to-air missiles. The aircraft also carries an electro-optical/infrared sensor, laser designator and secure radios with datalinks.
Although Indonesia is largely peaceful, it has suffered internal unrest over the years in outlying provinces such as Aceh on Sumatra and in West Papua. The Rockwell OV-10 Bronco, which the EMB-314 will replace, saw extensive service in these conflicts, as well as during the rebellion in the former province of East Timor from 1975 to 2002.
The Super Tucano is operated by the air forces of Brazil, Chile, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Ecuador, with the type having now logged over 120,000 flight hours.

Santo Domingo.- The mere presence of the Brazilian made intercept planes and alerts by U.S. air surveillance on radar blips over the airspace have virtually halted all drug airdrops in Dominican Republic.
Although the purchase of the -Super Tucano planes was met with strong criticism, reports of drug airdrops have fallen to zero since the start of their deployment around August last year.
Dominican Air Force chief Israel A. Diaz on Thursday revealed the start of the interdiction exercises "Sovereign Sky ll" to prevent the entry of suspect aircraft into the country’s airspace.
Quoted by news source elinformedigital.com, the official said when the U.S. radar platform plane, known as Airways, flying over the Caribbean airspace and detects a suspect flight, it sends the information to the Dominican military, which in turn scrambles two Super Tucanos on a mission to “persuade the intruder" to desist from their intention. “Several steps occur before arriving at that target."
Diaz said that a group of officers who work in operations follow the steps so the Super Tucanos can prepare and take off on a coordinated pursuit of the aircraft which didn’t identify itself. “We’re doing it even before the aircraft enters Dominican airspace, that’s to say that we’re going ahead so that target doesn’t even enter."
Diaz added that the Super Tucanos are equipped with modern 50 caliber machine guns, and can launch missiles.
