Finnair flights hit by delays in Embraer orders
Finnair has suffered disruption to its flight services as a result of delays in the arrival of new aircraft and spare parts from Brazilian plane maker Embraer, Helsingin Sanomat reported, citing the company.
Finnair is expanding its fleet of small aircraft with the acquisition of ten Embraer 170 and ten 190 type jets for around 364 mln eur.
But delays in handing over new planes has forced changes in the carrier's flight schedule, while problems in the delivery of spare parts have grounded Embraer aircraft already in service for long periods of time.
"Especially with Embraer subcontractors, we've had big problems," the newspaper quoted Hannes Bjurstrom, Finnair's head of flight operations, as saying.
He added: "The quality of a lot of the spare parts has been poor." Finnair has so far taken delivery of 14 Embraer aircraft, all of which have arrived at least a month behind schedule.
Two more planes will arrive in September and October, with the remaining four on order coming next year.
