Portugal boosts contribution to international missions

Portugal will contribute 2,349 troops, 6 ships, 10 aircraft, and 66 tactical vehicles to 29 international missions in 2019, the country’s Armed Forces General Staff has revealed.
A total of 1,112 troops, 1 frigate, 1 submarine, 6 F-16AM fighters, and 1 P-3C CUP+ Orion maritime patrol aircraft will take part in 11 NATO missions; 197 troops, 1 submarine, and 1 aircraft will join 6 EU missions; and 392 troops will serve in 3 UN missions.
These missions include four F-16AMs for the NATO Enhanced Air Policing mission in Poland; six F-16AMs, one P-3C CUP+, a frigate, a submarine, and army and marine troops for the NATO Response Force; and a mechanised infantry company to an EU Battlegroup for the first half of this year.
