A França possui fortes relações econômicas com o Irã e nem por isso precisa estar de acordo e nem apoiar o Regime iraniano e nem a sua política. Muito pelo contrário.

The Agency’s finding is clear: Iran is continuing to refuse to cooperate fully with the IAEA to provide transparency regarding her past and current nuclear activities and restore confidence in the exclusively peaceful ultimate purpose of her nuclear programme.
Political relations
In all of their contacts with Iran’s leaders, the French government stresses that Iran must dispel doubts about its intentions in the area of nuclear technology and respond to our concerns about Tehran’s regional policy and the human rights situation in Iran in order to be able to create conditions for expanding and deepening ties between our two countries, and eventually enable Iran to be recognized as a regional player that plays a key role in the Middle East.
Iran would have a lot to gain, in terms of relations with the international community, and, more particularly, with France and Europe.

Breaking with traditional French policy, which has long resisted sanctions as a diplomatic weapon, Sarkozy laid out a far-reaching strategy to punish Iran economically - both through United Nations and European sanctions and by exerting pressure on French and other nations' corporations and banks not to do business there.
Strengthened sanctions, he predicted, "eventually will produce results" in persuading Iran to curb nuclear activities prohibited under Security Council resolutions.
