Re: Marinha da Suécia
Sweden buys back previously sold Gotland submarine base
Swedish Armed Forces have bought back a submarine base in Fårösund, Gotland, after it had been sold in the 2000s as part of defense cuts.
This was announced by the Swedish Fortifications Agency (SFA) which said the deal is now subject to government approval. The agreement had been under negotiation since February 2017.
Buying back the facility was not easy for the defense ministry as they faced competition from a Russian oligarch who was interested in acquiring the port, Swedish media reports said after the government’s intention to buy back the port was disclosed.
The port went into civilian hands in 2004 for a price of 18 million Swedish krona. Now it is being bought back for 20 million, according to the SFA.
As outlined in the agreement, the acquisition requires the government’s approval by April 16 and the harbor is to be taken over on April 30, 2018.
With the acquisition of Fårösund complete, Sweden now has control over two ports in Gotland. Kappellshamn, the other base on Gotland, was bought back in 2016.

Dispacement: 2.400 tons
Next generation Corvette ships are available in different hull configurations: all-composite carbon fibre, as on the 650-tonne VISBY corvettes, or hybrid designs with a steel hull and a composite superstructure.
The latter utilises the Kockums-developed Composite Superstructure Concept, which has been successfully exported to the Indian Navy and to Singapore.

August 27, 2021 – Saab has today received a further order from the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV) to continue the development and production, as well as expand the capabilities, of the two A26 Blekinge class submarines previously ordered by Sweden. The order value is SEK 5.2 billion and the delivery of the two submarines will take place in 2027 and 2028.
“Saab is currently constructing the world’s most advanced conventional submarine. The new capabilities that are to be added to the A26 will give an additional edge within the weapon system and stealth technology among other things. With support from Saab’s skilled employees and investments, the important industrial submarine capability in Sweden has been restored,” says Micael Johansson, Saab’s President and CEO.
In June 2015, Sweden ordered the new A26 Blekinge class submarine, which is tailor-made for Swedish conditions. The capability to construct and build submarines places Sweden among the few countries in the world with the ability to develop advanced submarines. The Swedish submarine capability is among the most cost-efficient and modern in the market.

Re: Marinha da Suécia
Sweden Navy to equip Visby class corvettes with CAMM missiles
According to information published by MBDA on November 15, 2023, the firm has recently secured a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to supply Common Anti-air Modular Missiles (CAMMs) for the Swedish Armed Forces.
This agreement will equip the Royal Swedish Navy’s five Visby Class Corvettes with the advanced CAMM missiles, to be deployed from MBDA’s Sea Ceptor naval air defense system.
Sea Ceptor represents the latest in naval air defense technology, offering comprehensive protection against a variety of threats including supersonic anti-ship missiles, attack helicopters, and unmanned air vehicles. It is designed to provide both self and local area air defense, capable of countering advanced threats even in high-attack scenarios.
MBDA's relationship with Sweden is exemplified through the MBDA-led Meteor missile program, where Sweden is a strategic partner. Further collaborations include Sweden’s SAAB in the TAURUS cruise missile project and a new partnership on the AKERON MP anti-tank missile.
About the Visby class
The 640-tonne displacement vessels, measuring 72.7 meters in length with a beam of 10.4 meters and a draught of 2.4 meters, are designed for various naval operations. They employ a CODOG propulsion system, incorporating two 125SII Kamewa Waterjets and four Vericor TF50A gas turbines with a total rating of 16 MW. Additionally, these ships are equipped with two MTU Friedrichshafen 16 V 2000 N90 diesel engines, rated at a total of 2.6 MW, and three generators of 270 kW each.
With a top speed exceeding 35 knots, these vessels have a range of 2,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 15 knots. They are manned by a complement of 43 personnel.
The onboard Saab 9LV combat management system, Saab Sea GIRAFFE AMB 3D PESA surveillance radar, and Saab Ceros 200 stealth fire control radar system, along with the Condor CS-3701 tactical radar surveillance system, provide comprehensive situational awareness.
For underwater detection, the vessels are equipped with a GDC Hull-mounted sonar, Hydroscience Technologies towed array sonar system, and a GDC variable depth sonar.
These ships are fitted with a Bofors 57 mm Mk3 gun, eight RBS15 Mk2 anti-ship missiles, and four 400 mm torpedo launchers compatible with Torped 45 torpedoes. They also have ASW 127mm rocket-powered grenade launchers, as well as capabilities for deploying mines and depth charges. The electronic warfare suite includes the Rheinmetall TKWA/MASS (Multi Ammunition Softkill System), enhancing their defensive capabilities.

About CB90 combat boat
CB90 combat boat by Saab. Saab picture.
The CB90, originally developed by Saab for the Swedish Navy, is a fast military assault craft now used by several countries. The name stands for Combat Boat 90 Half; “90” indicates the year of acceptance (1990) and “Half” signifies its capacity to carry and deploy a half platoon of 18 fully equipped amphibious infantry. More than 250 CB90 boats are operated worldwide.
Renowned for its exceptional speed and agility, the CB90 can perform sharp turns at high speeds, decelerate to a full stop in just 2.5 boat lengths, and adjust its pitch and roll angles while underway. Its lightweight, shallow draft, and twin water jets enable it to reach speeds of up to 40 knots (74 km/h) in shallow coastal waters. CB90 has a range of 300 nautical miles at a speed of 20 knots.
The fast, all-aluminum CB90 Next Generation can carry multiple troops and cargo, in shallow or open waters, whilst maintaining speeds and maneuverability.
The craft offers supreme CBRN and ballistic protection thanks to lightweight polyethylene lining and safety glass. A robust weapons platform can include stabilised turntables, smaller missile systems and remote weapon stations like Saab Trackfire, whilst a versatile and tough interior, combined with a strong bow ramp, ensure swift deployment onto unprepared beaches.
Sweden intends to fit light anti-ship missiles on its CB90:
