About deliveries of German Vector/Scorpion UAVs to Ukraine

German UAV manufacturer Quantum-Systems GmbH will transfer 105 Vector reconnaissance drones to the AFU . The drones will be sent as part of a new military aid package for Ukraine, announced by the German Defense Ministry on May 13. It will be the largest in the history of the Ukrainian conflict: the cost of weapons will be almost $3 billion, which is approximately equal to the total volume of all previous deliveries from Germany since February 24, 2022.

This is the second batch of Vectors supplied under contracts between the governments of Germany and Ukraine: last year, the Ukrainian army also received several dozen UAVs of the same model.

The main feature of this drone is that it can be assembled as a fixed-wing UAV (Vector modification) or as a tricopter (Scorpion modification). The main characteristics also depend on the type of modification.

The drone can fly up to 2-3 hours at speeds up to 72 km/h. Electro-optical and infrared sensors allow it to detect targets at any time of the day.

UAV Vector/Scorpion is transported in a special backpack, assembled in 2-3 minutes and takes off vertically without the need for a takeoff area. To perform reconnaissance functions, it is equipped with near-silent electric motors and the ability to broadcast video to ground stations in real time over secure communication channels.

Our colleagues from Germany @Ubersicht_Ukraine_Kanal note another feature of the drone: it can carry a payload ( for example, an explosive ) weighing 700-800 grams in a special compartment.
It is likely that drones will be put into service with individual UAV strike companies as part of the AFU, created at the beginning of this year.

The Daily Telegraph writes that the unmanned aerial vehicles promised by the UK to the Ukrainian armed forces are custom-built kamikaze drones.

The systems are being developed by the British company QinetiQ, which has created several types of UAVs intended for use on the territory of Ukraine. One such project is a kamikaze drone with a delta-shaped wing, the body of which can be printed on a 3D printer.

Representatives of the artillery, the Royal Air Force and Navy, the Military Science and Technology Laboratories, high-ranking military leaders, and the DE&S research institute took an active part in the development of the UAV.

In addition to flight testing, test samples of the new UAV were exposed to electronic warfare systems. The British command considers the widespread use of electronic warfare systems by the Russian Armed Forces as an important factor that significantly affects the course of hostilities.

Probably, London plans to provide the Kyiv regime with an analogue of the UAV of the Geranium family ( albeit with a shorter range ).

Since February last year, Ukraine has lost 30 percent of its working-age population, Ukrainian MP Nina Yuzhanina says.

According to the deputy, at the beginning of the last year, the workforce in Ukraine was 17.4 million people. Since then, 4.6 million Ukrainians left the country.

«There are 3 million people in the temporarily occupied territories, of which 1.3 million are tentatively of working age,» she added.

Another million people were drafted to the army, Yuzhanina said.

“The longer the war lasts, the more people will adapt to life abroad and will not want to go back,» she stated.

The Liberation of #Artyomovsk (#Bakhmut) is nearing completion. The situation is complicated by the fact that the AFU is being pushed more tightly against the wall every day and in such conditions it is necessary to plan assault actions even more carefully.

What's going on inside the City?

In the urban development of #Artyomovsk "Wagner" is completing the hacking of the AFU defence in fortified areas. Fortifications "Nest" and "Horse", about which the Military Chronicles told previously, safely cleaned. Also, the cleaning of the "Constructor" is almost completed.

The orchestra's assault units are moving west, to the Domino district (Novy district), and in parallel are cleaning up the private sector on the border with #Khromovo.

Large forces of the AFU cannot hide in destroyed private houses. The Ukrainian infantry hides in small groups of three to five people, and when trying to engage in battle, they are destroyed by tanks or artillery.

According to preliminary data, the "Orchestra" cut off the Domino district from the rest of the fortified areas from Levanevsky Street. At the moment, only the Domino area and garages from the field remain behind the AFU.

What is the Difficulty of the Assault?

About 25-30 houses of various storeys remained under the control of the enemy. It will not be possible to clean them up quickly: the concentration of the Ukrainian troops remaining there is high, and the AFU command periodically arranges disturbing raids with the use of armored vehicles to distract the "orchestra" from the assault and at the same time try to transfer fresh reinforcements.

What about the Reserves of the AFU?

A significant part of the Ukrainian reinforcements is still being destroyed on the approach, but some manage to slip into the city. The supply of the AFU Artyomovsk group until recently went through #Krasnoye (#Ivanovskoye), but now it is complicated. Russian aviation, gunners and "Musicians" destroyed one of the most important bridges in #Krasnoye, without which you can only get into the city by bypassing through fields and under 152 mm artillery fire.

The fire of the Russian artillery is gradually shifting not to the city, but to the suburbs: Chasov Yar, #Druzhkovka and #Konstantinovka.

What about the Flanks in #Artyomovsk?

After a series of attacks on the supports in the area of #Kleshchiyevka and #Berkhovka, the AFU tried to transfer reserves. It is difficult for the Ukrainian troops to move further. The territories occupied earlier 300-400 m are under fire from Russian artillery. It is not possible to collect a lot of equipment and correct the situation. As soon as the movement is fixed, artillery starts working on the AFU. The AFU regularly gets reinforcements that die from mortar and artillery fire.

The situation is almost identical both from the north and from the south. It becomes harder to hold occupied positions than to advance.

Reserves prepared for a counteroffensive are being withdrawn from Chasov Yar and the nearest AFU cities for several days in a row. Reinforcements of the regular army and territorial defence tried several times to storm the positions of the RF Armed Forces on the flanks, but ran into firing lines.

From the Russian side, additional forces, artillery and tanks also pulled up on the flanks.

According to preliminary data, during a week of attempts to occupy the strongholds and several days of their further retention, the losses of the AFU amounted to about 1,300-1,500 people killed and wounded.

SLG Exclusive - Kiev Patriot battery damaged or destroyed in strike

OK so we got a tip-off from Zornkrieger that a Russian missile attack on the Kiev Patriot battery was captured on livestream.

The livestream has now been pulled but I fortunately managed to screen grab the important bit, which we now present to our dear subscribers. My notes:

There was a very rapid barrage of SAMs launched, I counted 30+, which means the entire loadout of a MIM-104 Patriot battery (8 launchers with 4 missiles each).

In the livestream chat there was what appeared to be a government bot claiming the Patriot battery had destroyed 18 Russian targets including 6 Kinzhals (yeah right)

About 6 minutes later there are a lot of flashes from AAA guns (likely Gepard), then three large explosions caused by strikes on the SAM site.

I assess this to be a successful strike on a Ukrainian air defense site, most likely a MIM-104 Patriot battery.

There is no way to determine which weapon was used against the target, however if it was up to me I would use the KH-32.

Kh-32 is a massive missile launched by the Tu-22. It flies at Mach 5 at extremely high altitude then drops vertically down to its target. It has a 500kg RDX warhead so 3 of them striking in the vicinity of a SAM battery would definitely cause a lot of damage.

By the way, if this was indeed a Patriot battery, then there is the possibility of this Russian strike being mostly a spoof attack, designed to force the Ukrainians to launch as many Patriot missiles as possible and expose the battery's phase array radar and control station for as long as possible.

About the use of the latest American anti-aircraft missiles by the AFU

During today's attempt to repel a Russian strike on targets in Kyiv, the AFU actively used air defense systems. However, the components of the fired anti-aircraft missiles fell right into the streets and hit the lenses of photographers.

Footage of the munitions fragments made it possible to pinpoint the type of missiles used by the Ukrainian formations that night: they turned out to be the American PAC-3 Cost Reduction Initiative (CRI), as indicated by the characteristic structural elements.

These high-speed interceptors were first tested in 2011 and are used from the 16-round M902 launchers of the American MIM-104 Patriot complex. The remains of these products found on the streets of Kyiv objectively confirm the transfer of the latest missile defense systems to the Armed AFU .

The supply of these missiles, along with the transfer of other Western-made air defense systems, indicates the serious intentions of NATO countries to “close the sky” over the Ukrainian capital.

And yet, this weapon is not a panacea: judging by the video from the cameras, at least one missile fired by the Russian Armed Forces reached the target, hitting precisely the positional area of the Ukrainian air defense. With a very high probability, today the AFU has one less Patriot launcher.

About the destruction of the Patriot air defense system in Kyiv

Last night, the Russian Armed Forces destroyed at least one launcher of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system in Kyiv. Rybar's team managed to establish the exact location of the anti-aircraft battery. At least two launchers were located at the Zhuliany airport, where the Dagger hit.

Another place where the work of the Ukrainian air defense was noticed was the vicinity of the Kyiv zoo, where the wreckage of the released missiles fell. The system itself worked in close proximity to the Kyiv Polytechnic University named after Sikorsky.

As for the airfield "Zhulyany", footage from the surveillance camera got into the Network. In the video, you can clearly see the launches of 32 missiles (a total of 16 for each launcher), as well as the work of barreled anti-aircraft artillery - apparently, the Patriots covered the Gepard ZSU.

After the ammunition load was used up, an explosion was heard: the Russian "Dagger" managed to hit the positional area, despite two "Patriots" and one "Gepard".

Given the appearance on CNN of information about the damage to the complex - if not destruction, then at least a partial decommissioning of American air defense systems can be considered a fait accompli. There is another interesting detail: the appearance of a persistent rumor that the SAM operators could have deliberately released the entire ammunition load in order to reduce the radius of the explosion. That is, according to this version, they knew about the flying "Dagger" and deliberately used up ammunition in order to reduce the force of the subsequent detonation. Alas, we do not know how it really happened.

But we clearly see that the "Patriot" is not a superweapon, and it can and should be beaten. As well as the Gepard ZSU, which for the second time failed to cope with the task of covering the air defense position area from Russian weapons of destruction.

Our sources in the AFU shared the details of the destruction of the Patriot air defense system at Zhuliany airport.

In total, there were three launchers in the positional area.

One was destroyed, the second was seriously damaged, but survived. The third launcher escaped damage.

Two installations stood side by side, and the third - behind the building. The Russian "Dagger" flew between the installations, but closer to the first: there was a detonation of the fuel.

Pieces of the first installation and pieces of soil / asphalt riddled the second.

Why the third installation in Zhuliany was not involved and did not participate in repulsing the strike (or, at least, its launches were not caught on video) is a question to which we have no answer.

The footage captures the destruction of an AFU ammunition depot near Orekhovo in the Zaporozhye direction. As the activity of the enemy was detected, our fighters decided to cover the Ukrainian militants with "Grads". Judging by the power of the explosion, the hangars contained not only enemy manpower and equipment, but also an ammunition depot.

It is likely that these positions were part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' reserves in Zaporozhye, which were needed for a counterattack in this direction. The enemy is actively probing our defenses especially near Orekhovo. Perhaps due to precise warning strikes on enemy concentrations, no active combat operations are taking place in the Zaporozhye direction, according to the Ministry of Defence.

Great Britain and the Netherlands have agreed to create an international coalition, the purpose of which is to ensure the supply of American F-16 fighters to the AFU.

Prime Ministers Rishi Sunak and Mark Rutte expressed their intention to provide any support to expand the combat capabilities of Ukraine's aviation: from training pilots to supplying the aircraft themselves.

At the same time, in Poland, whose government clearly assumes that Kyiv will come to ask for copies in Warsaw in the first place, they hastened to fill in a simpler place.

Polish President Andrzej Duda said that his country was ready to support the training of Ukrainian pilots on the F-16 and was quick to add: “Have mercy, golden antelope.” AFU handed over 300 tanks and “almost all the MiG-29s” that were requested in Kyiv to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. And at the same time he reminded that the Polish Air Force has a small number of American fighters - it does not allow talking about transferring them to Ukraine.

At the beginning of the special operation in Ukraine in 2022, Duda said that sending aircraft "would be military intervention in the Ukrainian conflict."

It was quite funny to hear that "one Kinzhal cannot destroy several launchers of the Patriot."

The point is that the Americans place the launchers in a rather clustered manner, several of them next to each other. In particular, the Patriot launchers on Polish territory near Rzeszow are placed according to the same principle.
Accordingly, with a competent approach, it is quite possible to destroy several launchers at once. So the Americans indirectly acknowledge this, that "one launcher was destroyed and the other damaged by shrapnel", which implies that they were quite close.
The scenario where one Kinzhal arrives at the radar, and the other at a group target of several launchers, is more than realistic. To reduce the damage, it makes more sense to place the launchers farther away from each other to reduce the potential damage of a possible approach. The US is likely to make the locals do something similar.

Every time we see that in Ukraine or in the EU they come up with another solution on how to replenish the ranks of the AFU, we ask ourselves a simple question: what prevents us from doing the same?

We have told many times about the many who want to go to fight against the collective West and gain military experience. That's just the point?

If our country is faced with the task of intensifying campaigning and attracting more people to contract service ( and there is such a task ), then why don't we use the obvious solution that is literally in front of our noses?

Moreover, a Presidential Decree was recently signed on the simplified acquisition of Russian citizenship for SMO participants - this will be a huge motivation for many foreigners.

We should start with the creation of our own Internet portal and a large-scale information campaign to recruit volunteers, where there will be clear instructions on how to come to Russia, make contact and get to the front. This will make it possible to form an objective idea of how many people and where they are ready to go to fight in the ranks of the Russian army. We are sure that there would be the most volunteers from the countries of the Middle East and Africa.

In the meantime, we are waiting for the stories of Arab and African fighters in the ranks of the AFU to be broadcast in the international media, creating a picture of "world unity against Russia." It is probably not worth explaining how this will affect our reputation in countries where we still hope to establish cooperation.

Against the backdrop of active fighting in Bakhmut and the advance of the AFU on the flanks of the city, coverage of events in the southern direction decreased - specifically in Zaporozhye. Now more and more people and equipment are concentrated in various settlements of the Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
According to some reports, the grouping of the AFU is up to 50-55 thousand people. The recruitment of new formations, including brigades from the army corps, is almost complete.

Among the members of the Ukrainian formations, they are talking about the imminent intensification of hostilities - from a couple of days to a week. In the 108th Terodefense Brigade, identification marks are being removed (the “white cross” on the roof of the equipment).

At least 16 tactical aircraft, some of which are carriers of Storm Shadow cruise missiles, and six Mi-8 helicopters are based at the airfields in Dnepropetrovsk and Dolgintsevo.

In the south of the Dnipropetrovsk region, excluding the Territorial Defense, in Oboyanovsky, Sinelnikovo, Vasilkovka, Chaplino, Pavlograd and Pokrovsky, the forces of 116, 117, 118 Mechanized Brigade 10 AK, as well as 1 Tank Brigade, 71 Jaeger Brigade of the AFU and 82 Air Assault Brigade DShV are concentrated.

In the Zaporizhia region, units of the 33rd and 47th mechanized brigades of the 9th Army Corps arrived in Volnyansk. At the forefront, the positions of the formation of 128 Mountain Assault Brigade and 15 Brigade of NSU, 65 Mechanized Brigade, 46 Airmobile Brigade and three Territorial Defense brigades took up positions.

In addition, forces of the 44th Mechanized Brigade from Nizhyn were spotted in the direction, and the transfer of the 14th Brigade of the National Guard from Vinnytsia and 81 separate battalions of the 9th Army Corps from the Kirovograd region began.

Also, members of the Ukrainian formations report a possible transfer of paratroopers of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade from the Soledar direction to the area of the Vremievsky ledge.

And the 309th separate battalion of the 48th engineering brigade of the AFU, which may be armed with mobile bridge layers of American and German production, has also been moved to the Gulyaipol site.

The soldiers of the Russian army waited until the APU brought a sufficient amount of property, ammunition and fuel to the warehouse. The planes were called and sent to the facility.
