Russian Aerospace Force Tupolev Tu-22M3 long-range bombers have flown two mission to eastern Syria to strike Islamic State forces besieging the government enclave around the eastern city of Dayr al-Zawr.
The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced the first strike on 21 January, saying six of the bombers were involved in the mission.
"The aircraft engaged base camps of the illegal armed groups, weaponry, and munitions storages as well as concentrations of armoured hardware and manpower," the MoD said. "According to the objective monitoring data, all assigned targets have been hit."
A second raid was flown on 23 January, when six Tu-22M3s flew through Iranian and Iraqi airspace to successfully hit Islamic State command centres and weapons stockpiles, the MoD said later that day.
