Sukhoi Su-34 can be front runner for Strategic Force Commands fighter requirements: Experts

BY: IDRW NEW NETWORK
Suddenly it seems like all three armed forces of India want to have their own dedicated air fleet and don’t want to depend on air force for all their requirements. When BSF wanted to have their own dedicated fleet for moving its logistics , Indian air force stopped protesting any more now and have help guide BSF in laying down its requirements with aircraft manufactures , IAF seems to have taken this in a positive manner , it also recently oked Army having bulk of HAL built LCH attack helicopter which still in testing phase but usually attack helicopters have been operated by IAF in past ,and Army has per source will also be acquiring MTA aircraft’s which Russia and India will be building jointly to help move it logistics all over the country .
Strategic Forces Commands not to be left behind has put its own demand for two plus Squadrons of its own Fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear payload; it has already mentioned that it wants already tested and available aircraft for this job , Jaguars and Mirage-2000k have been backbone of India’s aerial nuclear weapon carrier for a while , but Jaguars have been dropped for not having enough ground space to carry a nuke under its belly and Mirage 2000 along with Sukhoi Su30MKI have been sole Nuke capable fighter aircrafts.
Recent purchase of 40 Sukhoi Su 30MKI might head to this Elite Nuclear Squadron? Or will new aircraft will be purchased for this role is still unclear , since Cabinet approval for such request needs to be cleared first Front runner will always be Sukhoi 30 aircrafts optimized for Nuclear attack mode , but if IAF doesn’t want to give its fleet of Sukhoi 30 from its squadrons ,then defense expert Rakesh Sharma suggests that Sukhoi Su 34 which is a Bomber Fighter aircraft which Russia has been developing to replace its older Sukhoi Su 24 fleet along with its Tu-22 Medium range bombers could be ideal choice for SCF , Sukhoi Co have already reported that the it has begun full-rate production of this aircraft and Russian air force will acquire 200 aircraft by 2020.
What makes this aircraft front runner is it has shares many of the spares and components with IAF’s Sukhoi su 30MKI platform and will not require separate logistics to maintain them; Aircraft has been designed for precision weapons carrying capability that includes Nuclear weapons, and cockpit layout for pilot has been optimized for bombing roles and features side-by-side seating for a crew of two.
Su34 has long range of Su 30 along with Canards to maintain static instability (higher maneuverability) and to reduce trim drag , in addition it Su-34 features a rearward facing radar capable of detecting, tracking, and directing R-73 or R-77 AAMs at pursuing enemy aircraft.

Re: MMRCA - FX Indiano
http://www.aereo.jor.br/2010/09/20/novo ... or-que-ge/

UK had offered one of Carrier Vessels Future (CVF) to New Delhi
Ajai Shukla
A cash-strapped UK defence ministry, unable to pay for the two aircraft carriers on order with BAE Systems, had offered one of them to New Delhi. In the circumstances, a few news reports in India on “high-quality British shipbuilding” could only be useful.Amongst the several multi-billion pound programmes that seem certain to be pared is the Carrier Vessels Future (CVF) programme: the £5 billion ($8 billion) construction, mainly in British shipyards, of two 65,000-tonne aircraft carriers called the HMS Queen Elizabeth and the HMS Prince of Wales.
Given that the Indian Navy already has four aircraft carriers in the pipeline — the lame but functional INS Viraat; the infamous Gorshkov (renamed INS Vikramaditya), being constructed in Russia; a third (so far unnamed) carrier being built in Cochin Shipyard; and another to follow that — Britain’s offer of yet another carrier might be considered wildly optimistic. But desperate times demand desperate measures and the UK is conducting its greatest strategic downsizing since the 1968 retreat from the Suez. David Cameron’s new government has initiated a strategic defence and security review (SDSR), which involves defence spending cuts of 20-30 per cent to bring down military expenditure to below 2 per cent of GDP.

Honeywell Develops New Engine for Indian Air Force Jaguar Fighters
URL: http://www.india-defence.com/reports-4544
21/9/2010 Honeywell's aerospace division is exploring opportunities for forging partnerships with Indian companies that are keen to address the demand for offsets in defence deals, said Pritam Bhavnani, President of Honeywell's Aerospace Division in India, on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr. Bhavnani said, Honeywell had developed a new engine for the Jaguar aircraft. "We have provided the new engine to Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) and the Indian Air Force," he said.
About Honeywell's sourcing agreement with HAL for engines for turbo prop aircraft, Mr. Bhavnani said the first phase of the project was almost over. In the second phase HAL is to supply 400 additional parts. The third phase is likely to be completed in 2011, he said.
The sourcing agreement between the two companies requires HAL to supply Honeywell 600 aircraft engines over a 10-15-year period, Mr. Bhavnani said. Referring to the role played by Honeywell's facilities in Bangalore, Mr. Bhavnani said employees here had contributed to the development of the smart runaway landing and smart landing system.
He said the newly developed system would help aircraft pilots have "better situational awareness, especially in adverse weather conditions." He said Emirates airline and Alaska Airlines, among others, had shown interest in procuring the new system.
Honeywell employs 11,000 persons in India, constituting 8 per cent of its global workforce.

Tomorrow, terá um post sobre as discussões do MMRCA emWashington durante a visita do ministro da defesa indiano no http://livefist.blogspot.com/ Quem sabe alguma luz nessa compra (dúvido, mas).
O ministro e a Hillay

Huge news, and it's official. The DRDO/ADA announced earlier today in a statement that the GE F414 engine has been identified as the lowest bidder in the race against the Eurojet EJ200, to power the LCA Tejas Mk-II. This turns things completely around. In recent weeks, there had been a spate of source-based reports suggesting that the EJ200 had the more competitive tender, though there had been no confirmation.
But now, a formal statement from DRDO! Here it is in full:
The Price Negotiating Committee for the Alternate Engine for LCA Mk-2 has finalised the Comparative Statement of Tenders. The committee had its representations from Ministry of Defence, Defence Finance, ADA, DRDO, HAL, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy. After evaluation and acceptance of the Technical offer provided by both Eurojet and GE Aviation, the commercial quotes were compared in detail and GE Aviation was declared as the lowest bidder. Further price negotiations and contract finalization will follow.

Parabéns à GE, se a vitória for confirmada.

Carlos Mathias escreveu:Parabéns à GE, se a vitória for confirmada.

DRDO Chief Dr. Prahlada's comments:
"PRICE NEGOTIATIONS AND CONTRACT FINALIZATION WILL BE WORKED IN THE NEXT TWO MONTHS...GE AVIATION WILL DELIVER 20 GE-414 ENGINES FROM 2014 AND THE REST WILL BE MANUFACTURED IN INDIA UNDER TRANSFER OF TECHNOLOGY TO OUR DEFENCE ESTABLISHMENTS...THE GE-414 ENGINES WILL BE DEVELOPED BY THE GAS TURBINE RESEARCH ESTABLISHMENT (GTRE) IN BANGALORE IN COLLABORATION WITH OTHER DRDO AGENCIES SUCH AS AERONAUTICAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY AND HAL...WE HAVE DECIDED TO GO FOR A NEW ENGINE FOR THE LCA MK-2 AFTER THE INDIAN AIR FORCE (IAF) SOUGHT A BETTER ENGINE WITH HIGHER RATE OF PERFORMANCE IN TERMS OF SPEED, THRUST AND VECTOR THAN GE-404 ENGINES BEING USED IN LCA MARK-1"
Eurojet responded by releasing an official statement:
WE RESPECT THE DECISION TAKEN BY THE PRICE NEGOTIATING COMMITTEE. HOWEVER, WE REGRET THAT THE COMMITTEE HAS DECIDED AGAINST THE MOST CAPABLE & LATEST GENERATION ENGINE ON OFFER FOR THE LCA-TEJAS. TOGETHER WITH OUR CONSORTIUM PARTNER COMPANIES AND THEIR RESPECTIVE GOVERNMENTS WE WILL CAREFULLY STUDY THE DECISION AND ITS IMPLICATIONS. WE EXPECT FURTHER DETAILS FROM INDIAN AUTHORITIES AND MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROCESS LEADING TO THE ANNOUNCED SELECTION.
THIS DECISION DOES NOT AFFECT OUR STRONG COMMITMENT TO INDIA. WE WILL CONTINUE TO EXPLORE TRUE AND TRUSTED PARTNERSHIPS HERE WHICH WILL SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF A STRONG INDIAN AEROSPACE AND DEFENCE INDUSTRY.

The DRDO release says that the Price Negotiating Committee for the Alternate Engine for LCA Mk-2 has finalised the Comparative Statement of Tenders. The committee Chaired by Dr Prahlada, DS & CCR&D (Ae&SI) had its representatives from Ministry of Defence, Defence Finance, ADA, DRDO, HAL, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy.
After evaluation and acceptance of the Technical offer provided by both Eurojet and GE Aviation, the commercial quotes were compared in detail and GE Aviation was declared as the lowest bidder. Further price negotiations and contract finalization will follow.
GE 414 was also the IAF’s choice of engine.
On August 15th, 2007, Frontier India was the first to announce that GE-414 was being offered to IAF.
The offer also included redesigning the LCA Tejas to accommodate the GE- F 414. However it was felt that this offer defies the very Air Staff requirement (ASR) for the light weight, small aircraft. GE- F 414 is heavier engine, LCA dimensions will drastically change and it will push back LCA development for at least 3-5 years. Also the past experience dealing with US on LCA weighed heavy on the Indian minds. This time US decides not to cooperate midway, the Tejas project will be non recoverable.

Four MMRCA Contenders Fail Leh Trials!
It's the latest tidbit on India's $12-billion Medium Multirole Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) competition that's doing the rounds (and it was first reported by The Hindu on Tuesday). Four of the contenders that underwent cold-weather evaluation trials at Leh didn't meet performance requirements. OK, major understatement. Four of the contenders bit dust in Leh. Read that again: four aircraft. That's huge. It's still unclear which part of the Leh test the four aircraft types failed at, though it is quite clear that it was either the switch off/on after landing, or the take-off with meaningful combat load at that altitude. The only thing that appears true is that four aircraft failed the trial -- it is totally anyone's guess which these are. Any want to hazard a try?
