Submarinos
O investimento vai passar dos US$ 100 milhões.

O portal é bem elaborado e as notícias são pagas, a exemplo do Janes, Stratfor, Defense-Aerospace, DID, etc.

Le Figaro notes France-Kuwait discussions on Rafale fighter
Military and Security 2/12/2009 2:39:00 PM

PARIS, Feb 12 (KUNA) -- France and Kuwait are in discussions described at the highest level as "deep and quite advanced" on the purchase by Kuwait of high-tech, French "Rafale" fighters, discussions that could be concluded before the end of the year, daily "Le Figaro" reported here.
The newspaper, in a commentary on the visit earlier this week to the region by President Nicolas Sarkozy, indicated that the issue of Rafale sales was brought up in Oman and Kuwait, both of which are keen to upgrade their ageing air forces.
Sarkozy brought up the issue of the "Rafale" in talks with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, when the two men met in Kuwait city on Wednesday after Sarkozy had briefly visited Iraq, then Oman and Bahrain.
"Le Figaro" said that Kuwait is equipped with "about thirty ageing Mirage F1 planes," which were also supplied by France.
The French President said while in Kuwait that the discussions "were deep and quite advanced" with a timeline set for the end of this year.
The daily also commented that the deal between the two countries could concern between "14 and 28" Rafale aircraft, or about two squadrons.
It was also remarked in the commentary that France and Kuwait should sign "a new agreement for a strategic partnership" at the end of 2009, which would be an upgrading of the defence cooperation agreement signed between the two nations in 1993.
"Le Figaro" also noted that Sarkozys visit was not aimed at upstaging "Anglo-Saxon" influence in the region, but France was simply aiming to reinforce its position in the region, where "France and Europe have been missing these past years." "The aim is not to replace the Americans but to be side-by-side," the daily quoted Sarkozy as saying.
"Le Figaro" remarked that the Gulf region is the area Sarkozy has most visited since he was elected in May 2007, with the exception of countries of the European Union.
The French leader, the daily maintains, is eager to adopt as much a geostrategic approach as a commercial approach to relations with the Gulf nations and balance Frances position relative to Israel and the Arab countries.
This balance has "opened many doors for us," the newspaper quoted Sarkozy as saying (end)
