Japanese navy destroyer collides with South Korean container ship off

10/27/09 9:35 AM EDT TOKYO — A Japanese navy destroyer has collided with a commercial vessel off southern Japan, starting fires on both ships and injuring one crew member, defense officials said Tuesday.


The destroyer JS Kurama collided with the South Korean container ship Carina Star on Tuesday night in the Kanmon Strait near the southern main island of Kyushu and both were engulfed in flames, a defense ministry spokesman said on condition of anonymity, citing protocol.

One Kurama crew member was slightly injured, the official said.

Public broadcaster NHK said none of the South Korean ship's crew members were injured. It also said the Japanese ship's bow was damaged.

TV footage showed orange flames rising up from the vessels in the dark. The collision site is about 530 miles (850 kilometers) southwest of Tokyo, between Kyusu and the western end of the Honshu main island.

The Kurama was on its way to its home port of Sasebo on Kyushu after serving as the flagship for the country's triennial fleet review Sunday at the port of Yokosuka.

Last year, a collision between a destroyer and a tuna trawler off the coast of Chiba, near Tokyo, left two fishermen dead. That accident triggered an uproar in Japan, where many people harbor pacifist sentiments and remain sensitive to anything related to the military.

Defense Minister Toshimi Kitazawa quickly held a news conference and apologized for the accident.

"We deeply apologize to the people for causing concerns," he said. "We will quickly find out what caused the accident."

Kitazawa said the government has set up a taskforce to investigate the collision.

Gosto muito destes destroyers AS das classes Haruna e Shirane. Meu sonho de consumo para a primeira classe de barcos a ser projetada no Brasil após os navios do programa FX-naval seriam barcos baseados no mesmo conceito, com as devidas atualizações. Eu colocaria um só canhão médio ao invés de dois, instalaria lançadores verticais de mísseis no lugar do segundo canhão e deslocaria a superestrutura "em bloco" para a frente por sobre a posição do ASROC, aumentando ainda mais o já enorme hangar para levar até 4 helis médios/pesados.

Dois navios assim já garantiriam uma boa cobertura AS por helicópteros para comboios de mercantes, sem a necessidade de deslocar um PA ou BPE para a missão, desta forma evitando ter que alocar ainda mais escoltas à FT já que um P.A.ou BPE teriam que operar com escoltas próprios, que estes navios dispensam.

Segundo a Janes, o Japão está abrindo a sua primeira base militar além mar desde o fim da segunda guerra mundial, a base será instalada no Djbuti, nas proximidades da Somália e do Yemen e servirá de apoio as operações anti-pirataria cno mar vermelho.

O empreendimento custará US$ 40 mi e será finalizado em 2011, o intuito do Japão em reforçar sua presença no golfo de Aden baseia-se na necessidade de cooperação com os demais países que combatem a pirataria naquela região do planeta, para tanto segundo a Janes, o Japão treinará também oficiais da Marinha e Fuzileiros navais do Djbouti.

A Base permitirar ao Japão efetuar operações militares fora de seu território, o que quebra o longo período de limitações impostas desde a sua rendição na segunda guerra Mundial e assinatura de tratados pacifistas.

Details of New Japanese 'Helicopter Destroyer'

TOKYO --- Rumors that the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's third "aircraft carrying destroyer" would mark a major improvement in size and capability over the Hyuga class ships now entering service have been confirmed.

The new 22DDH will be 248 meters long and 39 meters in beam, and displace more than 24,000 tons. This makes her almost 50 percent larger than the Hyuga class and places an unbearable semantic strain on the use of the term "destroyer" to describe these ships. To put the size of the ship into context, she is comparable with a World War II Essex-class fleet carrier.

Illustrations of the 22DDH show her to be a full-fledged helicopter carrier with no real destroyer characteristics. The superstructure is very similar to that of the Hyuga class with the difference that the 01 deck is extended forward, probably to accommodate a vertical launch silo for air defense missiles. The point defenses of the new ships are more than doubled, with three Phalanx Mk 15 mountings and two RAM launchers replacing the pair of Phalanx mounts on the older ship. Significantly, while one of the Phalanx mounts on the Hyuga is situated forward on the flight deck, and thus obstructs fixed-wing operations, the 22DDH has all of its mounts located on sponsons clear of the flight deck itself.

The flight deck layout on the 22DDH differs significantly from that of the Hyuga class. One of the lifts has been moved from the centerline to the deck-edge position. The added width of the flight deck has been used to shift the axis of air operations clear of the remaining centerline elevator. The number of munitions elevators feeding the flight deck has been increased from two to four.

A vertical launch silo built into the rear of the flight deck on the Hyuga has been removed, once again reducing obstructions to flight operations. Flight deck operations capacity has been increased from two to seven helicopters.

Japanese accounts suggest that one of the reasons for the drastic increase in size of the 22DDH design is a planned shift to the V-22 Osprey as the primary air group element for these ships. It is not clear whether these would be replacements for or supplemental to the SH-60Ks that equip the Hyuga class. These accounts also make it clear that the F-35B short takeoff and vertical landing variant of the Joint Strike Fighter is seen as a key system for these ships. Apparently, provision for the operation of UAVs is being included within the design.

Eu vou pelo Yamato. havia uma série de animação dos anos 60 que eu sou fã e tem muitos fãs no Japão que era o casco do yamato convertido em nave espacial com capacidade para lançar caças.



Pode parecer brincadeira mas não é. Quem vota e quem decide cresceu a ver esta série


Agora há uns anos fizeram um filme, dai que tudo me leva a crer que passado todo este tempo, exista muita gente no Japão que deseja ver um Yamato a navegar.
