Overhaul and in-depth Upgrade of Russian Cruiser Admiral Nakhimov is on Schedule

Overhaul and a major upgrade of the Project 11442 heavy nuclear-powered cruiser Admiral Nakhimov to the Project 11442M configuration will be completed by 2021, Rear Admiral Igor Zvarych, head of the Russian Navy’s Technical Department, said following a working meeting on repair and servicing of the Navy ships, chaired by Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief, Admiral Vladimir Korolev.

According to Zvarych, Sevmash is repairing and upgrading the Admiral Nakhimov in accordance with a state contract strictly on schedule. Reports on each stage of the schedule and the scope of upgrade work done are regularly submitted to Navy Commander-in-Chief Korolev.

According to the contract, overhaul and upgrade works on the cruiser are carried out by the Sevmash shipbuilding enterprise, Severodvinsk. Currently, the foundations for new equipment systems has already been formed and installed, repair and renewal of life support systems and cable laying are underway.

Once retrofitted, the cruiser will feature all new performance characteristics and will significantly enhance the Russian Navy’s surface force capabilities.

Earlier it was reported that the bulk of the Severnoye Design Bureau’s activities in 2016 involved the development of detailed design and working documentation for retrofitting the Project 11442 cruiser Admiral Nakhimov. By the end of the year, they were by 60.2 and 52.3 percent complete, respectively. Also, the Bureau provided technical support for this project. The level of technical readiness for this item by the end of 2016 was 12%.

The Project 11442 heavy nuclear missile cruiser Admiral Nakhimov is designed to destroy value surface targets, launch strikes against coastal targets, and provide air defense for a cruising formation. The ship was launched in 1986 and commissioned into the Navy in 1988. Since 1999, the cruiser had been at Sevmash’s mooring quay in Severodvinsk. In 2012, a decision was made to rebuild the ship. An overhaul and retrofit contract was signed in 2013. In the course of retrofit, the Admiral Nakhimov will gain the capability to employ the Kalibr strike missile system. The ship has a displacement of 24,500 tons, a length of 251 m, a full power of 140,000 hp, a speed of 31 knots and a crew of 728. A Ka-27 helicopter or its versions can be deployed aboard the ship.

Foi levar espingardas-automáticas e munição dadas pelos Russos às Filipinas. Tanto os Chineses como os Norte-Americanos também fizeram o mesmo.

Ural general purpose off-road 6x6 vehicles/trucks, for the AFP?

According to unconfirmed reports, and from MaxDefense Philippines, the 20 trucks that the Philippine Armed Forces would receive from Russia is the Ural general purpose off-road 6x6 vehicle produced by Ural Automotive Plant in Miass, Russia.
Other than the standard Ural 6x6 truck, It may be modified into a Trailer, Tanker Truck, Armored Vehicle (like the picture below).
I assume, if reports are correct, that the Ural truck variant that are to be donated to the Philippine Armed Forces is the standard Ural general purpose off-road 6x6 truck only, but who knows it may be the armored variant. What do you think?
Stay tuned for the big revelation, and for the turn over ceremony.

Russia launching first modernized Borei-A submarine in November: media

Imagem

The Russian Navy is set to launch the first of its modernized Borei-A (Project 955-A) submarines, the Knyaz Vladimir, next month, Russian media say.

These plans were revealed by Russian Navy chief Admiral Vladimir Korolev in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star) newspaper.

This announcement follows an earlier one in which Korolev said the Knyaz Vladimir would be launched in August. The admiral did not elaborate what caused the submarine to miss the first launch date.

The submarine is still expected to be delivered to the Russian Navy in 2018.

Russian shipbuilder Sevmash Shipyard started construction works on the Knyaz Vladimir in 2012, with a six-year pause in construction starts between the third and final Project 955 submarine Vladimir Monomakh, and the first of the improved Project 955-A boats.

Compared to the first three boats, inducted into the navy between 2013 and 2014, Borei-A boats are built with four additional missile tubes making them capable of carrying a total of 20 Bulava (RSM-56) ballistic missiles. Apart from missiles, the new boats reportedly benefit from improved acoustics and better sensors.

The Russian Navy intends to operate a total of eight Project 955 and 955-A boats. The keel for the final one, the Kniaz Pozharsky, was laid in Severodvinsk on December 23, 2016.

Naval Guns aboard Russian Navy Project 11711 Landing Ship LST Ivan Gren Tested in Baltic Sea

The crew of the Project 11711 large amphibious assault ship Ivan Gren has fired the shipborne AK-630M small-caliber artillery system as part of the builders sea trials in the Baltic Sea, Baltic Fleet spokesman Roman Martov said.

During the next stage of the trials, the crew will fire artillery systems against a seaborne practice target and a floating sea mine mockup, he added. Earlier, the ship’s crew took military hardware aboard for the electromagnetic treatment of the hull by the SR-28 and SR-936 degaussing vessels to reduce the physical field.

The Ivan Gren is the Project 11711 lead ship. It was laid down by the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad in west Russia in December 2004 and launched in May 2012. Its builders sea trials began in June 2016. The ship is planned to be delivered to the Russian Navy before the yearend.

The ship Ivan Gren can carry 13 main battle tanks, 36 armored personnel carriers or infantry fighting vehicles, or 300 Marines in full combat gear. The ship can transport a reinforced Marine company with organic military hardware and land it with the use of pontoons. The ship is armed with six-barrel 30mm automatic guns and carries two Kamov Ka-29 (NATO reporting name: Helix-B) transport/attack helicopters in its deck hangars.

Russian Navy Kirov-class cruiser Admiral Nakhimov's Hull to be Rebuilt during Upgrade & Overhaul

Russia`s 'Admiral Nakhimov' heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser of Project 11442M (NATO reporting name: Kirov-class) is waiting for hull rebuilding works. The rebuilding will change the design of the ship: the missile deck and the superstructure that incorporates the conning room, the combat information center and antenna farm will be modified (the later in a partial manner). The large-scale works are required to integrate advanced weapon systems. The rebuilding of the hull may lead to the shift of the delivery date of the ship, according to the Izvestia newspaper.

The experts say that such ships as the Project 11442M cruisers are important for Russia`s Navy and should stay in service for several decades, being equipped with state-of-the-art weapon systems. The 'Admiral Nakhimov' was built in the 1980s; therefore, a substantial rebuilding is required for the installation of new weapons and complexes. Therefore, the Navy will get a universal combat platform as the result of these works.

The Izvestia newspaper was told at the Navy`s General Headquarters that the engineering changes to the design of the 'Admiral Nakhimov' had been agreed, and their preliminary cost and terms of completion were being estimated. The rebuilding of the hull is required for the integration of advanced weapon systems.

According to the Izvestia newspaper, the updated Project 11442M ships will get the 3S-14 Kalibr vertical launch systems (VLS). The 'Nakhimov' is also planned to get the Poliment-Redut modern surface-to-air missile (SAM) system. The cruiser will be fitted with new electronics, in particular, modern radars and digital communication systems that envision the replacement of the antenna farm.

The powerful onboard computer of the updated 'Nakhimov' will be a feather in the caps of the shipbuilders. The artificial intelligence of the ship will be able to evaluate environment, to predict the course of actions and even to use weapons independently.

The 'Admiral Nakhimov' went into service in late 1988. In the late 2000s - early 2010s, the decision to conduct a deep modernization and to turn the ship into a modern universal combat platform with high potential, the Izvestia newspaper says.
